Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I posted this in the puppy madness group a few weeks back, but didn't know this group existed! I see a lot of size discussions here, so figure this may help some of you with wondering how big your pup will get. Tenley's parents are 17" 25lbs and 19" 48lbs.
Birth: 8.5oz
1 week: 1.06lbs
2 weeks: 1.9lbs
3 weeks: 2.8lbs
4 weeks: 3.9lbs
5 weeks: 4.4lbs
6 weeks: 5.2lbs
7 weeks: 6.5lbs
8 weeks: 7.8lbs
9 weeks: 8.6lbs
10.5 weeks: 10.5lbs
11 weeks: 11.2lbs
14 weeks: 15.6lbs
16 weeks: 18.3lbs
20 weeks: 25.3lbs (!!!)
23 weeks (5 months): 26.1lbs
25.5 weeks: 28lbs
27 weeks (6 months): 30lbs
31 weeks (7 months): 30.4lbs
33 weeks (7.5 months): 30.4lbs
35 weeks (8 months): 30.9lbs
So, as you can see, Tenley grew really, really fast for a few weeks and has slown down significantly since then. He has practically gained no weight for the last two months. We will see how big he winds up - I am thinking 37-40lbs, but wonder if he will even get there since he has slowed down SO much.

I can't see Tenley reaching 40 pounds at this rate but I'm no expert!
Thank you for posting this chart. I have been wondering how big my Omar will get and this helps me a lot. It's funny that my puppy was a little heavier than yours at 9 weeks and then yours just shot ahead and is quite a bit bigger. You just never know I guess!
Omar is now 20.5 weeks and weighs 19 pounds. His parents are: 37 pounds and 14 pounds. I was thinking he would get to 30 pounds but now I am not so sure.
These are Omar's stats.
9 weeks: 9.2 lbs
10 weeks: 10 lbs
12 weeks: 12.2 lbs
16 weeks: 15 lbs
20 weeks: 19 lbs
Yeah that is crazy! Mine was the smallest in his litter and then I just recently found out his brother who was always a good 3lbs ahead of him is only 35lbs now! Funny how they grow in spurts.
It is super interesting and just goes to show it's certainly not an exact science. I entered Omar's numbers in this puppy weight calculator (http://www.puppychart.com/) and it tells me he will be 26.3 lbs as an adult but like you said, they grow in spurts so who knows?
Hmmmmm... I like that chart because it is purely off of weight not breed. I tried changing Tenley's breed to Bernese Mountain Dog and it still displayed the same weight, which shows they must have some sort of algorithm. It says Tenley will be 33lbs. We will see. I'm torn, because I wanted a smaller dog but I feel like the end of him growing is the end of puppyhood and I don't want to give that up either :)
I know how you feel! They are just so cute as puppies! I sometimes look at Omar and I feel like my heart will burst from his cuteness. That said, I'm sure we will enjoy them at every stage. :)
Yup!!!!!! There are some days I look at Tenley and I'm shocked at how big he is. He is 18" to the shoulder and 30lbs. So not nearly as big as most doodles but to me he seems big.
Then I look at my other doodle who is 29" to the shoulder and 56lbs.... and I remember why I wanted a smaller dog!!
The smaller the dog, the sooner it reaches size maturity. Tenley is larger than Ned but the growth rate you posted is the same as your post. Ned was pretty much done growing by 6 months. He is 17" and 27-28 pounds - still the same and he is 6 now.
Yup - I am thinking he is close to done as well.
It is so funny having a "smallish" doodle because everyone sees him and asks how old and when I say 8 months they say, "HE'S GOING TO BE HUGE!!!!"..... I just figure they don't know that most medium sized dogs are almost full grown at that age, and just filling out.
I get that all the time too! I'm always like, "No I don't think he's going to be more than 30 pounds," and then they say, "Look at this paws though! They're HUGE!"
Anyway, I think people genuinely believe that all dogs grow and grow and grow until they are a year old. They just don't realize that even a 5-month old medium or small dog is way past the halfway point in growth.
Yup!!!! I have even had people "shake his hand" and they reply, "Wow, his paws are really small under all that fluff. They look HUGE otherwise!" It's so funny. I had someone on another forum tell me their doodle was 30lbs at Tenley's age and is 95 at 3 years old so there is still a chance Tenley could be huge. I was saying that I have never in my life heard of a dog that 30lbs at 8 months triple its weight over the next few years! I think people forget that 8 months is far from "early" when it comes to puppy growth! I think even my jumbodoodle, Mel, who is 29" at the shoulder was about 26-27" at one year old. He weighs 63lbs full grown and was 53 at Tenley's age!
Just wondering where Tenley ended up being. Ours is at 24.6 at about 7 months. It's like watching grass grow sometimes.
He hovers between 33-35lbs. He will be two next month so I'm sure he's done growing!
