Perfect Puppy-calm before the storm?

Hi,  

So I'v lived with my pup for 2 months now and he's been perfect.  He has lost and grown out most of his puppy teeth and he hasn't chewed anything of mine. He just hoards everything and puts it on his bed.  He leaves my shoes alone and just seems to know what is a toy and what is mine.

He has been sleeping out of his crate for the past month with no problems with 0 accidents.  He's completely potty trained and even gets his leash when he wants to go outside and rings the bell. (video on my page)

He is super well socialized , doesn't jump up on people or even try to bite my hands or ankles and is super obedient..

The problem?  It's eerie and weird. I'm expecting him to go throughout his rebellion stage, he's been so good that I feel like this is the calm before the storm.  

My Dad's doodle ate thousands of dollars worth of stuff and I'v talked to other puppy owners who lament on how their puppies are a menace and wondering if mine will go throughout this as well?

Has anyone else experienced the perfect puppy , does it pretty much stay this way it is or is this the calm before the storm?

It just seems too easy , and i'm def. not used to easy so i'm suspicious....

I have to say...Enzo has been the easiest, best behaved puppy we have ever had. Extremely fast learner, has never chewed one single thing that she wasn't suppose t, very laid back, and listens incredibly well! My thoughts on a second, are diminished thinking no other puppy could live up to her! She has just turned 1 yr old, and knock on wood, no signs of demon behaviors yet! Thank you Goldendoodle gods! ;)

Charlie is one of the "soulful" ones, laid back, sweet, gentle - looks right through you with those big brown eyes!  He was an easy puppy to train and still just wants to please me.  We had a very special bond from day one.  He is 3.5 yrs now and he pretty much has the same personality he had as a puppy.  When Charlie was a year and a half, we got another doodle (he has same father as Charlie but different mother).  Beau must take after his mother! LOL  He seemed a bit of an "airhead" as a puppy, a lot uncoordinated - he still has a little trouble catching balls and he loved to chew - on the coffee table legs (it happened in a second while I was sitting right there), chewed  my leather sandals - thank goodness I had bought two pair of the same sandal, because he ruined the strap on two shoes (one from each pair) and I still ended up with one complete pair!  It was way cheaper to buy bully sticks than new furniture and shoes!  Beau was not really the puppy from hell, he was just very different from Charlie!  I made a pact with myself when he was about 5 mos old - no more comparing him to Charlie!  I began spending lots of one on one time training.  I found out that he was indeed quite intelligent but just wired different than Charlie. Beau will be two Aug 5th and I can tell you, this boy can make me laugh like no other - he is a clown and also just as sweet as can be!  I think they our doodles are similar to children in that they each have their own personality which makes life very interesting!

I love the changing the perspective thing after not comparing the two.  I think it's what I was doing with my guy i was comparing him to my Dad's dog and abilities and your'e absolutely right, the personality are very unique and so must be their learning style.

Thanks for sharing, i didn't think until this discussion that our pets could harbor old and young souls :)

You may have just hit the jackpot like we did. Finn is now 18 months old. We was 4 months when we gave him run of the house (no more crate at night or when we were out). There are plenty of things to chew but he doesn't. He has had a Lego or two but he always comes near me with a look on his face and all I have to say is "what have you got?" and he drops it. Guilt is a good thing.

LOVE your dogs name!!  I named mine Finnegan , but it might as well be Finn :)  

After reading the comments I bit the bullet and left him alone for the first time for 1.5 hours.  He was lying on his bed chewing his toys when I returned.  No messing, not on furniture and nothing destroyed.  

Thank you so much ladies for your input.  I feel much more comfortable and less paranoid, I didn't realize how stressed out I was over this , it feels great knowing he's not sick and most likely not apt to turn into a little hellion.

Now that I know that it's normal to have a perfect pup (sounds weird), I feel like I can enjoy it more without feeling like any day now...

 It may last forever, or the puppy may discover some things to chew on that are no-nos, but enjoy his perfectness. Some of my dogs have been better than others about puppy shenanigans, but all of mine have chewed something they shouldn't and dug some in the back yard.  All of them outgrew it, except Ned and paper trash.

I'd rather go back to Stew as a puppy-he was much easier than he is now. I've tried Sophia Yin from the beginning, Stew does some things perfectly and very well (sitting before going through doors, sitting for food, fantastic loose leash walking, waits at curbs etc) but he's been very difficult in certain situations (guarding). I just keep telling myself that it could be worse.

Does your dog have access to windows he can look out of when you're not home?

Boone does.  I have no curtains (my son has a cat that eats cloth - but he is mostly an outside cat now.  LOL).  There are plenty of windows and doors that have windows that reach to the floor.  He can see out from many different sides.

Someone was telling me that leaving access to windows during the day while you're at work is bad because they learn that barking at people passing by = them leaving which feeds into their guard dog behavior.  They suggested I don't let my pup near windows unsupervised otherwise he'll become one of those dogs that bark at people and be aggressive .  I don't know...

Boone very seldom barks and certainly isn't aggressive.  He loves people over other dogs (even when he was puppy the breeder told me he'd rather hang out with them than his littermates).  When we go to the dog park and I turn him in with the other dogs he heads to the benches first to see the people.  I wouldn't believe everything you hear.  I think each dog is an individual.  I do hear a few dogs barking at the windows of their homes when I walk.  It's almost always where the people have left the shade up a little so they can see out.  But again, I think it is just whatever the dog's nature is.
