Hartley fell up the steps!

When playing outside, Hartley tripped and fell up some granite steps. He whacked the front of his left hind leg really hard on the steps and wouldn't put his foot down at first. I checked him out and walked him around and he started weight bearing. He cut the front of his leg, just above the knee - small but deep. I wrapped it to stop him licking it. He is now obviously uncomfortable, I'm sure he has bruised the front of his leg (the dog equivalent of hitting your shin really hard on the coffee table). He is a little restless and breathing a bit faster then normal, so I know he is sore. I have some Metacam left from his last injury and wondered if I could give him a dose to make him more comfortable? What do you think??

Oh boy, poor Hartley! I'm not familiar with Metacam, but if he took it before and had no problems with it, I don;t think it could hurt just so can be more comfortable tonight. I would have the vet look at it tomorrow to be sure there isn't any internal damage. I hope not.

Metacam is an NSAID, it is the same as the human drug Meloxicam. I tested his knee straight away, pretty sure his CCL is intact, it felt good and stable (thank dog!!). He is now weight bearing but hobbling. He fell asleep, so hopefully he is settled for the night now. I think my vet works later on Tuesdays, so I could get him there after work tomorrow if he is still sore then. I just hate seeing these guys uncomfortable :(

Hey guys. He is a bit stiff this morning!! I shortened our morning walk, and he did stand on that leg while he lifted the other one to pee!! He can also sit properly, which I take as a good sign. I had wrapped it to keep him from licking it, but it fell off (hard place to wrap). So I am really hoping he isn't licking at it while I am work. We'll see what I find when I get home!
