Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I've been feeding the boyz Acana Duck & Pear for going on three years now, for no other reason than that my Bloody Picky Hound actually likes it and there aren't many kibbles that he really likes enough to ... ya know ... eat. Yes, I know he'll eat whatever I give him if he gets hungry enough, but it is nice to know that he likes what he's getting. Well, that and I do like knowing that the boyz are getting their nosh from one of the best pet food companies out there. So imagine my unhappy surprise when I stopped by the little pet supply shop that gets most of my paycheck to be told "Ummm, you need to know that we may be having trouble getting your food for a while."

She proceeded to explain that with the formula change for all of their singles foods (oats/potatoes to legumes) is causing a problem in the US and particularly in Washington state. (She wasn't certain about other states.) Apparently Washington has labeling laws that are preventing Champion from shipping these foods to our state? She tells me that there's one formula, I don't remember which (because my brain was screaming "Noooooooo!") that she's been trying for over a year to get back in stock.

I checked the major online pet food sources before writing this and most of them (Wag, PetFoodDirect, PetFlow) are out of stock. The only one listing the Acana Duck as in-stock right now is Chewy.

Believe it or not I'm actually getting to questions here, LOL. Does anyone else have any information about this? Should I be planning to switch foods? Fussy-Britches does like some of the Fromm formulas, so I could make a change now or wait and see how this falls out. Any ideas/opinions, gang? Karen?

Thank you for the information, I guess I'm glad we have the Regional Red and Six Fish! Good luck!

Update the Second - Lachlan has declared that Fromm Chicken a la Veg is quite an acceptable substitute.

(Me: Oh, shut up. You like it. Just admit it. Lachlan: It's a'ight, I guess. Me: I just watched you pick it out of your bowl and eat it before the Acana. Lachlan: Fine, I admit it. Can I have some more?)

Declan, of course, has declared it "Hooray! Food!"

Crisis averted. Peace (temporarily) reigns.

LOL, glad the boys are liking their Fromm. :)

I just ran into a shortage on the Lamb & Apple :( Does anyone know if the new formulas are out yet? Is my local store just behind the curve on getting this restocked?

The new formulas have been out for several months, I believe.

Did your local store give you a reason for the shortage? It often has to do with their distributor.

Yeah, they said that they're changing the formula and they will have it once their distributor has it... which doesn't help me so I bought a bag of the chicken and potato. I still have some lamb left so i will transition. Just hate having to do that.

They're misinformed. The formula has already been changed, they eliminated the grain. If you still have your bag, check the ingredients. If it contains steel-cut oats, that's the old formula.

If so, it sounds like the store's distributor may have been wanting to use up what they had of the old formula before stocking the new one.

The problem with switching to the chicken and potato is that you're switching protein sources completely as well as adding grains (assuming that you've been feeding the new grain-free lamb formula). If the lamb you have is the old formula, the oats in the chicken & potato formula won;t matter..

You might want to consider the Grasslands formula if you do switch. It's lamb and duck based.

:) Yum. Woof.  It's the bomb

Oh ok, do you think she would tolerate that better? I have her on Singles because she has a pretty sensitive stomach.

Nevermind! I found another store nearby that has it! YAY!

Good! That's what I just suggested below, lol.
