Hi everyone,

My puppy Kingsley is three and a half months old and has had really bad diarrhea for 3/4 days now... He had had me up consistently every hour throughout the nights and during the day. He had bad diarrhea a while ago but I switched his food to orijin puppy and he was totally fine until now. He's been tested for worms and giardia, both negative. Not sure what to do now to help him! Any suggestions would be great! Thansk so much!

What type of test was done? Did he have a fecal test? Though the test came back negative, it sounds like he has giardia..which can have an incubation period of 10-14 days..meaning it can possibly not show up in a test for another 2 weeks!

What are currently feeding...treats/bones included? Something there may be the culprit. Also, make sure he is not eating anything he shouldnt...mulch, leaves, etc.

You may want to switch to a bland diet of baked sweet potatoes and boiled chicken breast until things resolve.

If/when you do go to the vet again, request another fecal to be done..Do not let the vet give you metronidazole (or RX food (garbage)...the bland diet I stated above will be just fine).

Panacur is the preferred drug of choice for giardia. Also, you will want to start him on a probiotic...Proviable DC is one that many of us use..you need to replenish the good bacteria in his gut, as the antibiotic sometimes wrecks havoc on both the good and bad bacteria in his stomach. Until you get the probiotic, plain, low fat yogurt will do the trick!

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Jill has given you great advice. I don't know when the last fecal was done, but I'd have it repeated, and make sure they're doing a fecal float test. This really does sound like giardia to me.

How is his appetite & behavior?

Hoping he feels better soon!
