Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just brought back my new labradoodle puppy today. He really likes to stay in the backyard for some reason. He was taking nap in the backyard so we tried to bring him back inside to take naps, but he kept whelping next to the window, wanting to go outside. When we brought him outside, he started sleeping again. I have carpeted floor at home. Is it because the carpet is too hot for him? anyone else had similar problem? Thanks!

picture of him sleeping soundly in the backyard. we don't want this to become a habit though :(

He is so cute! Don't worry, the first few days your puppy is home is really overwhelming/scary for him. He may just feel more comfortable outdoors. I'm sure he will warm up to the family ( & the indoors!) in no time at all - just be patient! :) When I first brought home my puppy, Sophie I was so concerned because she wasn't eating and was shaking for the first couple of days. I thought she was sick or had some neurological disorder! She just needed time to warm up to us and adjust. She's the happiest, healthiest, and most outgoing dog ever now. Good luck!

Did the puppies live in a home or a kennel at the breeder's? Did you see where they lived?

I didn't get to see where he lived. The breeder is from Ohio (Yesteryear Acres) and I live in PA. The breeder was recommended by a lot of people so I wasn't worried about his living conditions. I am pretty sure he lived at home though. I introduced Pepper to his crate and now he's doing a lot better.

I think he is just getting used to his new digs, and perhaps prefers the cooler feel of the concrete outside.

I know I much prefer the outdoors ;-)

He's new, not yet bonded to you and may just enjoy the breeze/sounds outside.  Who knows.  A lot of humans and kids LOVE to be outdoors.  But I don't think it will be a habit necessarily.  Give it time and as you spend time with him and do things with him, etc...he'll grow to want to be near you.

He is so cute, and as more experienced DK people have suggested, maybe he just needs some time.  Keep loving and it will be returned in no time!

I was thinking along the same lines as Karen. Maybe he was mostly raised outside and the feel of the outdoors is more like "home" to him? But either way, he will adapt to his new home in time, I'm sure.
