Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey I just got my labradoodle puppy yesterday. He did really well last night. Didn't cry at all and slept through the whole night without any accidents!

I was just wondering when was the first time you guys showered your puppy? Can I give him a shower now? (he's just over 7 weeks old). What's the best soap/shampoo for labradoodle puppy's coat?

Thanks a lot!

We started to introduce Oakley to the shower right away. We just let him explore while we were in there and he would walking in and we should praise him. After he did that a few times we would soap him up. I love CloudStar Buddy Wash in Lavender mint scent. It is a combo shampoo/ conditioner in one. I ordered online. Oakley loves the water and doesn't fight up to take a shower and I really think it is cause we introduced it slowly and early.

How often do you shower Oakley?

It's a problem since Oakley loves the water and wants to get in the shower or pool or lake all the time. In the summer when he is swimming I don't give him many baths. One every few weeks since he is alway in pool. I know that many people say not to bath him too much cause it can dry out his skin but I haven't had that problem and he loves it. Sometimes I use the Buddy Wash conditioning spray to freshen him up. So it really depends. We have an open shower so sometimes we don't plan on giving him a shower and he makes the decision to join us on his own. Lol

Make sure it is dog shampoo.   TJ Maxx has a great selection of various dog shampoos

Cloud Star Budy wash for us too.  I think our scent is Rosemary.

I gave Maci her first "wash" with just water in the sink once she came home at 8 weeks to get her accustomed to it.

Since then she had a mini bath in the bathtub, then a full bath.  For me it was just about baby steps so I did not make

her afraid of the bath.  Also gave her some treats during the bath to make it a pleasant experience ;-)

Yes, as others before said, just make it pleasant.  We just used local drugstore stuff with no probs- just "for puppy" at first.  My guy is not crazy about showers, but sits nice and lets me do whatever!  Then we let him loose and he runs all over.  Takes a few towels before we let him loose!

Thanks a lot for the replies! I just ordered all natural puppy shampoo online and will give him a bath as soon as the shampoo gets here!

How often should I shower my labradoodle puppy?

I never showered my puppies unless they got really dirty and I was desperate.  Vern is too big for a home bath and now, they go to the groomers about every 8-10 weeks. My advice would to be bathe him when he is dirty and needs a bath, but certainly not every day.

I agree. My dogs never got bathed more often than every 6-8 weeks, as puppies or adults. Brushing and combing should be done several times a week, though.

Wynnie's breeder recommended MinkSheen Shampoo...great smelling, and leaves coat super. Our groomer, after using the shampoo on Wynnie loved it and is now using the product. Can be purchased on Amazon.

MinkSheen Pet Shampoo 4 in 1 Concentrate

-gentle shampoo, coat conditioner, anti-bacterial
-repels biting insects with natural cedar, eucalyptus, citronella oils
-soothes and conditions irritated skin and hot spots
-leaves coats smooth and shiny, contains mink oil.

Tropiclean Kava- it is what I have always used with Ragley and I don't think I will ever change. I love it.
