I just brought Addie home after her spay. I feel for her because she is pretty dopey. It will probably help keep her quite for at least the first day. The vet said I now have the hard part to keep her quiet for 10 days. Not looking forward to that as Addie is a spunky little girl who loves to run and loves playing fetch and tug-of-war in the house.

For her surgery, the vet shaved a circle around her front leg. I can see her wearing this "bracelet" for a while. I think I'll notice more than she will.

Boone had that same bracelet when he was neutered.  I thought it would never grow out and look normal again but after a few months it finally grew back.  :-)  Attaching a photo of it.  Believe me you can't tell anymore.

The picture made me smile. It always amazes me how much of our dogs is fur,

If you can go to my page and see my posts after Yarrow's spay in April, you'll see the difficult time I had trying to keep her quiet. Trying just seemed to make her even more determined to be outrageous. Good luck!

I am just checking to make sure all is well. Addie has been lying on her bed near me since we came home from her spay this afternoon. She has been making little groaning, moaning sounds periodically. I gave her her pain meds about an hour ago. When she came off her bed a few feet, I tried to get her to go outside for potty, but I ended up picking her up and carrying her outside. She peed on the lawn and made it across the street to her usual poop site and pooped a little but then lay down. So I picked her up an carried her back into the house.

She has no interest in water and I am not even going to try food but I am concerned that she won't drink. I assume since she has peed twice she is okay for now. It has been over 20 years since I have had a dog spayed and I feel like I am being an over-concerned mother in need of reassurance.

Aww.  It was about 15 years for me between spayed puppies.  Yarrow was very dopey and sore the first 12 - 20 hours or so.  There was still snow on the ground and I noticed her pee was a little orange with blood.  I was freaked but found out that it is not uncommon for a newly spayed female to have a LITTLE redish tinge to her pee just after surgery.  It does not mean bladder infection.  A neighbour gave me a really good tip.  She said to take a picture of the incision so that you have a perfect reference for how it looked in the beginning and whether or not it is improving or getting redder... those things you have to watch for.  I checked Yarrow's incision obsessively and was glad that I had the picture to look back on after a couple of days.  Here is a picture after getting Yarrow safely home through a snow storm.  It was February 18th, 2014.

Yarrow looks so sweet. I think I will follow your neighbor's good advice and take a picture of her incision. She is doing a little better this morning and walked outside instead of being carried and she drank a little.

Yarrow reminds me of Addie, not just in the coloring but in the toy. Addie has a bunny that she has slept with since I got her. Although she now chews other stuffed toys until the stuffing is all over the house, she takes the bunny with her and sleeps  with it.

That's her panda that came with the scent of her mother and litter mates. I've put it away now because Yarrow and Shiloh like to play tug of war with the stuffies. One bunny has already lost its ears and a duck has lost a wing.

My girl was just spayed 2 weeks ago. The first 24 hours she was out of it and found the oddest spots to lay down for a nap. We made sure we had things on the chairs and couch so she wouldn't jump up, and carried her up and down the 3 steps outside to go to the bathroom. We didn't walk her until 10 days post-surgery or played fetch in the house. She enjoyed laying outside in the sun. It's so difficult to keep them "quiet", but it's over before you know it.
My husband put a couple extra couch cushions on the floor for her and she frequently laid there to nap....just an idea. My girl just had the front portion of her arm shaved and the hair's already growing back. Good luck!!

Thank you

And here she is 3 days later. Mischief in her eyes and ready to rock!  I didn't see it coming.  She was normally good as gold.  All the peace and quiet had her wound too tight and she started doing things like jumping up in the air from a stand still and leaping over baby gates!  I nearly fainted! Beware the third day... unless you have a more cooperative pup like Laura's.  Bones, bones and more bones and bully sticks... they are to a puppy what coloring books are for a convalescing child. (sorry I have the photo in there twice and don't know how to remove one of them)

Here is Addie showing off her new bracelet.
