Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Total newbie here.  We're getting our doodle later this week from the breeder, and we had last pick of the litter (we were hoping for a much curlier doodle to try and combat the shedding and keep my husband's allergies from acting up, but from reading on the forums here I'm learning it's pretty much hit or miss even with curlier coats).  Right now our puppy looks like a retriever in everything but color to me (this was a multi-gen doodle to multi-gen doodle breeding, so it's entirely possibly she got all retriever genes).  She sheds moderately.  Any chance she'll doodle out later on?  My profile pic is her at 6 weeks, and I've attached two pics from our visit with her at 7 weeks.  All her litter mates are already very doodly.

Thank you!!

(p.s.  I'm loving seeing how other people's doodles change as they grow - can't wait to see what Ginger grows into!)

Ginger has amazing markings and she is going to be a gorgeous dog, no doubt about it.  I would say right now she is more retrieverish for sure, but with this breed, it's always a guessing game.  You can go onto my page and see the progression of my puppy.  He too started out quite retrieverish...

I'm hoping Ginger ends up with a coat like Truman's - I love it!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some doodle in there!  (Also hoping the shedding stays in the moderate range....)

Oh she is CUTE!! Oh my!!! I LOVE her markings!!

When Spike was that age in March/April... (where did the time go?!)... he too wasn't very curly. Very retriever-ish. Except he had ears like your girl. The wavy curl. He stayed that way for a bit then turned into a shaggy reggae version of Alf. I loved it! I've got pic's on my page.

We had his first groom done late in July. All the puppy fluff was gone. And now? He's curly. Very curly! In fact I have a picture of his Dad (full poodle) and Spike side by side. There is no doubt that Spike is Daddy's little boy. Spike's an F1B Mini and doesn't shed at all.

No matter what your pup ends up looking like you've got a cutie! Take a TON of pictures because they really do change. And they change FAST! Enjoy her!

She looks pretty retrieverish to me and I am in LOVE with her.  She would have been my first choice and I wouldn't care if she 'doodled out' or not.  One of my dogs is a Springer Spaniel and I have a great fondness for wavy ears and freckles.  Hopefully she won't aggravate your dh's allergies.

I've attached some more pictures of Ginger at 16 weeks - it's clear to me that she's not going to look remotely like the typical golden doodle, but man is she cute!  More importantly, as you can see, she puts up with her tiny overlord's excessively squeezy hugging sessions like a saint.  No nipping.
