Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I thought that I would formally introduce myself and Orwell to the forum (plus it is a good excuse to post pictures).
My name is Kaitee and I am currently a college student studying Biology and Philosophy. I still live at home with my parents, so I have a big yard until I move out with Orwell to our own place with "daddy," my fiance.
News of Orwell came to me shortly after July 11th when I found out that one of my former teachers in high school that I still keep in contact with had a litter. My childhood dog (Bonny, a yellow lab) passed away last January. It was the most awful thing that I have gone through. She got really sick and we had to put her down at 13.5 years. For about a week, I swore off ever getting another dog, but I realized that the joy of having one outweighs the heartbreak in the end. I went over all of the breeds again, and went back and forth on a few, but getting this little guy seemed to be the right course. Eventually, I do think I would like to breed something like a Scottish Deerhound... but obviously now wouldn't be a good time. Orwell is my new companion dog, and who knows... he might get to have other doggy friends down the road.
I am already pleased with him. I've been able to teach him basic commands (at only 9 weeks!) and he loves the water. His joy of the water is great for me, because I like going swimming in the summer. My old lab wasn't real keen on the water for some reason.
Best of all, he picked me. He was the first puppy to come to me and he tried to take a nap in my lap. Right now he is going to his teething stage, so he isn't as cuddly as he was when I met him, but I'm sure that behavior will return with time. I say that he only "tried" because his brothers and sisters then bombarded me as well. He tried again one more time before being kicked out. When I started to leave, he was the only one who followed me to the door. He still follows his momma everywhere and gets upset if I am out of his sight (I will need to work on that obviously).
Now, the pictures. :)

Thanks guys. He is going to be a large boy. He was one of the biggest in the litter if not the biggest. I'd say that he is pushing 20 lbs at the moment and has huge paws he has to grow into. I'm happy with that, though. I wanted as big a dog as I could get while still living at my parents. They like how I snuck him in because I said, "Oh… he won't be any bigger than Bonny." When I brought him home they knew I fibbed, but they didn't care because he was almost potty trained. xD
So this is off of the topic of puppies, but, you study Biology and Philosophy too!!! Oh my goodness! I do too!
Orwell is adorable, enjoy those early puppy stages, they're so much fun and they seem to grow out of them so quickly!
Whoa… weird. Normally you don't see these two fields of study together. I'm double majoring. (:
I'm just looking forward to when he's about 4 months old.
Haha yeah, it's not the typical combination. Bio (mostly zoology and ecology) is my major and Philosophy is my minor. What are your plans afterwards?
Callie just turned 4 months a week ago, it's definitely easier now (especially since we've done puppy school already), but I'm hoping she stays like this. She's pretty much an angel and I hope there isn't a terrible adolescent stage coming up with her soon
I plan on going into zoology… research, etc. I'm just doing the Philosophy major as well because I like it and might as well get the most out of it.
From my experience with my Bonny (yellow lab) she never reverted back or had an attitude after she lost her teeth. Everything was fine from then on. I would expect the same from your doodle.
Handsome guy.
He is darling! Congratulations on getting him and welcome to doodlekisses.
Orwell is sooo cute, Kaitee! Sounds like the two of you are really enjoying each other. Congrats and welcome to DK.
Welcome to Dk Katiee and enjoy the best site on the Internet! Orwell is adorable and there is nothing like a Doodle! Have fun!
Orwell is darling! Congratulations!!
