Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I thought that I would formally introduce myself and Orwell to the forum (plus it is a good excuse to post pictures).

My name is Kaitee and I am currently a college student studying Biology and Philosophy. I still live at home with my parents, so I have a big yard until I move out with Orwell to our own place with "daddy," my fiance.

News of Orwell came to me shortly after July 11th when I found out that one of my former teachers in high school that I still keep in contact with had a litter. My childhood dog (Bonny, a yellow lab) passed away last January. It was the most awful thing that I have gone through. She got really sick and we had to put her down at 13.5 years. For about a week, I swore off ever getting another dog, but I realized that the joy of having one outweighs the heartbreak in the end. I went over all of the breeds again, and went back and forth on a few, but getting this little guy seemed to be the right course. Eventually, I do think I would like to breed something like a Scottish Deerhound... but obviously now wouldn't be a good time. Orwell is my new companion dog, and who knows... he might get to have other doggy friends down the road.

I am already pleased with him. I've been able to teach him basic commands (at only 9 weeks!) and he loves the water. His joy of the water is great for me, because I like going swimming in the summer. My old lab wasn't real keen on the water for some reason.

Best of all, he picked me. He was the first puppy to come to me and he tried to take a nap in my lap. Right now he is going to his teething stage, so he isn't as cuddly as he was when I met him, but I'm sure that behavior will return with time. I say that he only "tried" because his brothers and sisters then bombarded me as well. He tried again one more time before being kicked out. When I started to leave, he was the only one who followed me to the door. He still follows his momma everywhere and gets upset if I am out of his sight (I will need to work on that obviously).

Now, the pictures. :)

"Thanks mom for the lunch!"

welcome! Orwell is just adorable and you will love having a doodle!

Welcome Kaitee and Orwell...he is one cute Doodle boy!

He is just adorable..  His coloring is very unique.  I have a feeling that his black is going to end up fading a lot like our Lucy!  Here are a few pics where you can see the silvering in her face and legs as a puppy and then her what I call Pewter color now.

Actually, I don't think he will change color all that much. His mother is still black with some white in the face. His grandma was a white poodle and his grandpa a black lab on his mother's side. His dad was cream colored and all the babies turned out black… it was weird. :P

You are right, it is weird. Kona was pitch black as a pup. We couldn't get a good photo of him for anything. His mother was a black Poodle and his father was an almost white Golden Retriever. There is a "fading" gene in some Poodle lines. Kona is now much the same color as Lucy who is pictured above. Whatever color he is, Orwell is going to be adorable.

I have no doubt. My favorite thing about his appearance is that he already looks like an old man, so it will be less noticeable when he gets more grey when he grows old.

Orwell is so very cute. Enjoy him and welcome to DK.

Welcome, Kaitee.  From Orwell's name, I would have guessed that you were an English major, rather than someone studying Biology and Philosophy!

Haha… English is my other love. I did name him after George Orwell. I like naming my pets after literary figures or characters. I have a guinea pig named Milton after Jon Milton as well. (: It was also fitting because I got him from my old English teacher. The first tentative name I had for him was Yorick, but I have a brother named Erik, so I decided against it.

What a cute puppy :) and welcome to DK....

Welcome!  Orwell is so cute :)

I teach college Biology (and took a Biology undergrad myself)... I know all about how tough it is to be a Biology student!

Orwell will make a great study buddy and listening ear.  Good luck!

He is a cuddle bug and likes to warm my feet. That is all I ask out of him.
