Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I thought that I would formally introduce myself and Orwell to the forum (plus it is a good excuse to post pictures).
My name is Kaitee and I am currently a college student studying Biology and Philosophy. I still live at home with my parents, so I have a big yard until I move out with Orwell to our own place with "daddy," my fiance.
News of Orwell came to me shortly after July 11th when I found out that one of my former teachers in high school that I still keep in contact with had a litter. My childhood dog (Bonny, a yellow lab) passed away last January. It was the most awful thing that I have gone through. She got really sick and we had to put her down at 13.5 years. For about a week, I swore off ever getting another dog, but I realized that the joy of having one outweighs the heartbreak in the end. I went over all of the breeds again, and went back and forth on a few, but getting this little guy seemed to be the right course. Eventually, I do think I would like to breed something like a Scottish Deerhound... but obviously now wouldn't be a good time. Orwell is my new companion dog, and who knows... he might get to have other doggy friends down the road.
I am already pleased with him. I've been able to teach him basic commands (at only 9 weeks!) and he loves the water. His joy of the water is great for me, because I like going swimming in the summer. My old lab wasn't real keen on the water for some reason.
Best of all, he picked me. He was the first puppy to come to me and he tried to take a nap in my lap. Right now he is going to his teething stage, so he isn't as cuddly as he was when I met him, but I'm sure that behavior will return with time. I say that he only "tried" because his brothers and sisters then bombarded me as well. He tried again one more time before being kicked out. When I started to leave, he was the only one who followed me to the door. He still follows his momma everywhere and gets upset if I am out of his sight (I will need to work on that obviously).
Now, the pictures. :)

He is adorable! Mine went through a terrible bitey stage. She took 3 months to grow out of it...but now, the best dood I could ask for.
Welcome to DK! Orwell is very handsome.
Oh my goodness what a cutie-pie...he is just gorgeous...love his coloring...so glad you have another companion to share your heart...losing a dog is never easy...but Orwell will help to heal the pain of losing your first dog...love the pics...thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting your pictures of adorable Orwell and welcome to DK. I hope you have a chance to check out the myriad groups for everything from training, to grooming to food and photography. Lots to choose from. The people here are great!
He has already made me feel better about Bonny. I don't feel like he has stolen her yard (though he is protective of it like she was), and he's been up to her grave. I knew I would need to have another dog. I feel better now that I have that kind of companionship again. It seems that there is something missing if you don't have a dog.
