I have a very retriever-y doodle from a multigen doodle to multigen doodle breeding.  She sheds a little (don't notice much around the house, but if I tug on her fur I'll get a bunch of hair out).  I bought a furminator, which she HATES...but I bought the furminator for short haired dogs and I'm not sure if it's pulling her fur as I brush.  Should I try a furminator for long haired dogs?  Something else?  She's happy to sit in my lap and get brushed by a soft brush but it doesn't get much hair at all.

We use a rubber brush on Maddie and it will get collect some of her lose hairs. For a good brushing to make her look good we use a rake type of brush. Not sure this helps. She sure is cute.

OMD, I still love her and still those wonderful freckles!  Short haired dogs really don't need special, fancy, expensive brushes. I think the rubber, mitt-like ones work well for short haired dogs.   If she sheds a lot and has an undercoat, you can use a furminator.  If she doesn't shed bunches, especially if she doesn't have an undercoat, the furminator is pulling out top coat - you do not want to do that.   Remember, I have first dibs! :-}
