Whoops. The DK gremlins ate part of my reply. : (
Yes, absolutely. Riley managed to bite off a big chunk and dropped it at my feet, it had a very sharp edge :( I got such a fright that I have never boiled them since. The (Irish) marrow can be scooped it is obviously harder but the consistency of very hard butter. Maybe our Cows are different here Lol
LOL, I guess mine have just never been warm enough for the marrow to soften.
I know that one of F's doodles managed to split a marrow bone once, and I think one of Stella's boys can break them (and antlers as well). Just depends on the dog, I guess.
Here's one of the many FG discussions about marrow bones, this one is very informative: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/marrow-...
I always buy a bag of bone marrow bones and freeze them. My doodle was a heavy chewer and with a frozen bone, it lastet a lot longer. Usually I made him eat on his rug or outside in the yard. Jerry definitely scraped the marrow out of the bone in one sitting. If I would have let him have a fresh bone, he would have had it finished within seconds.
