Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi All- I'm new. I joined this group because I'd like some feedback. We got our 2nd "standard goldendoodle" last Saturday. She has papers and is AKC registered. Unlike my other gd, the new puppy was at a puppy store. My kids had roped me into walking through to see the puppies and I spotted this pup. She looked very unhappy. I played with her a bit and saw she had a cough and I could feel her ribs. She was 16 weeks that day. It was obvious she was sick. I talked to the owner and we worked out an agreement for her adoption and medical care- which she was not receiving and probably should have been. I brought her straight to the vet and she was only 10 pounds. My older gd was around 30- 35 pounds when he was that age. Granted he's going to be very large (currently 74 pounds at 10 months old), I am surprised just how petite my new one is. Her parents were: mom- golden retriever 62 lbs, dad- standard poodle 56 lbs.

Anyway, it was discovered that my new pup, we named her Daphne, had kennel cough, upper respiratory infection, intestinal parasites, and was not resting enough because of all the puppy play in her shared pen at the puppy store. I'm thinking this all plays into why she's so little for a standard. I don't mind if she is going to be petite, but I would hate for her stunted growth to be long term.
Today is one week later. She's been on lots of meds and is much livelier. She has a great appetite and is now 11 pounds.

Awww. I am so happy to hear she was rescued from that awful store! Congrats on your new puppy :). Sophie had parents similar in size to Daphne (just a tad smaller). She was around 17 lbs at 16 weeks and is now 50 lbs at 11 months. I'm sure daphne will put on weight. It can take time after being undernourished and it takes energy to heal which can also delay weight gain. Keep us updated! :)
That is one lucky puppy!
She is one lucky puppy! Kudos to her new family! She is a cute puppy!
Lucky girl. Pretty name. I believe that with love and proper care she'll catch up. She may grow up to be a smaller doodle, but she'll be happy and healthy. I'm glad you found her.

She certainly is one lucky pup.  And for the record....GoldenDoodles are NOT recognized breed...therefore she can NOT have "papers" from AKC or be registered.

Interesting point, Ro, the rest of us skipped over that. That pet shop really needs to be reported for neglecting sick puppies and giving false information.
Her parents can be AKC registered but not their offspring.
Exactly.

I am concerned about the origin of this dog. My gut tells me that it's not from a reputable breeder and the papers may not even be legit. But without the details it's only a presumption on my part.

Good for you for rescuing this poor puppy, but in rescuing it you have adopted a lot of issues, medical and psychological, that could come up. I wish you the best.

My guess Nancy, she is a puppy mill pup. No self respecting, reputable breeder, sells to a pet store. Papers are not legit, because there are no AKC papers on Doodles of any sort.
Hi all-
I posted here looking for feedback, but I'm not looking for presumptions.

Allow me to clarify; i just looked through paperwork, she has been registered under AKC reunite. This is basically to aid us if she gets lost. The other papers I have on her include: the disclosure of animal pedigree, and a New York State division of animal industry information statement pursuant to general business law with her mixed breed info and parent breed info (this is also on file with NYS dept of agriculture).

As well, I rescued her because it was the right thing to do, not because she would come with papers. I do not have nice things to say about the pet store, as some of you don't either. I wish I could have saved them all. But, none of you know for sure that my papers are fake. The documents I do have are accessible from NYS, and so I do think the papers are accurate- but I agree that the breeder shouldn't have sold her that way.
That being said, please do not assume that the papers are fake, feedback like this is not supportive or constructive, nor appropriate to add to the issue at hand; her health. My concern is her health, proper growth and happiness from this point on. Please try to keep your comments factual, supportive and NOT accusatory.

I apologize for not clarifying in my original post what she was registered with. She is not registered with AKC as a pedigree, obviously. It is just for her microchip. All other paperwork is NYS registered.
