Red tear staining under one eye on my 16 week Apricot Doodle

Does anyone have issues with eye tear staining?  No one wanted to adopt him because of it, so I did.  The breeder said it is more cosmetic than anything, but it seems that if it's a yeast infection of sorts it must irritate him. What can I do? It is just one eye.  The other one is fine.  It is particularly a dark rusty red in the corner, almost like a dark red blotch, then a bit of staining under the eye.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  I've only had him for 24 hours.

Thank you for that info. :) Yeah, I agree too. My concern is less aesthetic vs. the actual bacterial buildup in those red pockets around his eyes. I clean his eyes every day but I've had to cut that thick red buildup in the beginning which he hates and is pretty arduous. It could have just been from the irritation of fur around his eyes or the type of water/food he was fed by the groomers that caused this initially. Koda has had no staining at all since we started Angel Eyes that first week, but we also trimmed around his eyes and changed his diet so that might be the solution as well. I am planning on stopping the Angel Eyes treatment but I was looking for a less evasive alternative in case they come back. I've heard a ton about about Rolaids but they have been discontinued for some reason.

My neighbor has a bichon and they have notoriously red yucky around their eyes. Her breeder told her to use rolaids, any flavor will work. She swears by it.

I have a 6 month old that I have been searching for answers to this question - - red tear stains - - - I've heard everything from change water to change food . . . I'm trying both. Hope SOMETHING WORKS!

You might consider having your dog examined by an veterinary ophthalmologist.  The upper and lower tear ducts might be small (micro) or closed (imperforate) and can be enlarged or opened with surgery to allow the tears to drain.
