Hello my Doodle friends,
I just came back from a weekend trip to Maine, and I had to share.
Don't know how many of you travel with your Doodles, and stay at hotels. I never have stayed at a hotel with Finnley before. Finnley travels with us most everywhere, but when I am going to be gone over night, She usually gets her own overnight at the doggy lodge.
For this trip however, I decided to seek out a pet friendly hotel, for us all to share the weekend. After researching a few places, the one I picked was close to where my son was living, and seemed to have some very good feedback from people with pets that have stayed there.
So, I made my call to the Hampton Inn, in Saco Maine and reserved our room.
I was extremely nervous when we arrived. I have to admit, I am a tad bit quirky... eccentric (?) when it comes to staying at a hotel. I bring my own pillows, and towels... you get it!
Anyway, I didn't know what I would be getting myself into, going to a place that actually allowed me to bring my dog. Felt a bit overwhelmed, kind of like Howie Mandel trying to avoid a handshake !! (fist bump)
We arrived, and the front desk clerk was so nice while she explained everything. She even gave us some very nice poop bags, which we didn't need, but I like the way they looked, so I certainly didn't turn them down.
We got our card key and headed up to the room. I opened the door while holding my breath, and WOW !! It was one of the nicest rooms I have ever been in ! So clean with...  get this, puffy, fluffy WHITE duvet covers on the beds. I was so thrilled, and actually felt a comfort level that I don't usually feel in hotels.
Finnley was a bit nervous the first night. She could hear people going up and down the halls, but she was really good. I slept very well, and that is something I do not usually do in a hotel.
Everyone was happy, and we all had a good experience at the Hampton Inn in Saco Maine. So if you are traveling with the Doodle, check out a Pet Friendly hotel. You might be as pleasantly surprised as I was !!

Clean and pleasant is what I want. I'll have to check out a LaQuinta. I wonder if the one in my city takes dogs. I'll have to check.

When we drive to Texas to see our daughter, we make a stop in Las Cruces at the Best Western Mission Inn.  We've never had a bad experience there, even though we don't love Las Cruces (which is our halfway point).  Zach has done it enough times that he knows the drill.  Basically all we do is sleep and leave, and it is fairly inexpensive, so perfect for our needs.

Glad you had a great experience in Maine.  :)

Thanks PJ! I should have known that Zach was kind of a professional traveler!

When we made our move to California from Houston, Texas....we stayed in Hampton Inns across the country . 1 large Golden Retriever and a handful of cats! We were very pleased with the accommodations and pleasantly surprised how clean the rooms were. Additionally, the rooms were set up so animals could not escape and hide under beds or behind furniture.

How did cats do in a hotel situation? Brave, brave person!

Surprisingly well! Of course, we didn't have much choice. I refused to put them on a plane, so across country we drove. They were a bit nervous at first, but, we really had no problems at all. Each night, after being let out of their crates, they'd all walk around the hotel room, inspecting all 4 cornors and every nook and cranny. I guess having the dog and each other there, helped. They are 3 Ragdoll cats, so pretty easy going.

Glad to hear that they rolled with the punches. Ragdolls are adorable !

Thanks for the heads up on the hotels.  When we have the dogs we are usually in our RV, but we have taken Ned to a pet friendly hotel a couple of times and also  found the rooms to be really clean.  Perhaps to counteract any doggie problems???

Nancy, an RV sounds like great traveling to me!

Wow Sheila how nice to read this!  We have never traveled with Libby yet and everytime I start to research it out it I get overwhelmed with whole process.  People have told us the places that are Pet Friendly are usually dumps and dirty and that is where I stop.  Sounds like you really had a nice place and Finnley did great!  I will try and search out the Hampton Inn the next time I even put a "trip" into my head.  LOL   We might go the coast for Thanksgiving with Libby and this has given me some hope!  I too bring half the house if we travel.  That's probably why my DH is not interested in going!  LOL

Lonnie, that is what I kind of thought a pet friendly one would be. Dirty! It was the nicest of surprises! Hope you get to try a trip with Libby soon.

I was really dreading " a pet hotel". I envisioned doggy smells, fleas, etc. Couldn't have been further from the truth! Maybe they go the extra mile to avoid all that, I don't know. But, no regrets!
