HELP-My "Standard Doodle" is only 5.5 lbs at 9 weeks! Im a new pup dad and need advice

I picked up my Belle from the breeder Saturday (10/25) and she is sooo small.  She is supposed to be a F1 Standard English Goldendoodle but is only 5.5 lbs.  To top it off I took her to the vet the vet first thing Monday (10/27) and she has tape and hook worms.  She was re-wormed (the breeder swore she was wormed) so that step is taken care of but I cant get her to eat very much.  She is on high quality puppy food-wet and dry.  Any idea or tips as to what to do? I was hoping that she would grow to be a big girl, after all she is supposed be a standard.e to a "standard".  I am very concerned

Puppies get worms. It happens. Hook worms come from being around infested feces, tapeworms come from swallowing a flea. If there's no fleas there are no tapeworms. No other way to get them. Usually puppies go through several wormings until they are 16 weeks - at which point they run a final fecal float to make sure they're clear. Some heartworm medications also kill intestinal worms of a few varieties (round worm, whip worm, hook worm). Make sure she takes a heart worm pill every month!

Once she's rid of those intestinal vampires she should start to put on weight.

Dogs can get tapeworms from ingesting the feces of any type of animal that has them or drinking contaminated water also. It is actually the microscopic eggs that get ingested not the worm so basically a dog can get tapeworms from being anywhere that an infected animal has been.

Actually a dog must ingest a flea to get tapeworms. Thats the only way it is transmitted to them.

She's absolutely adorable! It will be interesting to watch her grow and see where she ends up, weight wise.

Hoping the meds will kick in and she will eat. Plus, when they are stressed (she is so new to your home and all of this) they don't eat as well. Try to ensure her drinking. Also, pups like company in order to eat :)
How much is she actually eating? Also, are you feeding her the same food that the breeder did? What is it?
But if your mom alert is up and you are really concerned that she is not eating, I'd contact the vet again. Good luck!
What a cutie! I'm guessing the worms were part of the weight( or lack of). Hopefully she'll do a catch up and gain. If the Vet wasn't concerned...then sit back and enjoy the puppy madness! Keep us posted.
Enzo is the least food motivated dog I have ever had. She free feeds on Orijen or Acana( I toggle back and forth for her). Mom was 55 lbs, Dad was 70+....we figured she'd be in the 55-60 range. She barely tips the scales at 47.
Sweet story about Oscar and Lucy! :)
Yarrow had been wormed but, because puppies and worms kind of go hand in hand, she did have to be wormed a couple more times after I brought her home. It's not unusual. I still check her poop for signs of anything that looks suspicious. I read that as dogs get older they build up a resistance to worms but puppies can contract some parasites just by sniffing at another animal's infected poop. I don't know for sure if that is true but I read it somewhere.
Your pup is adorable and looks a pretty good size on your lap. It's impossible to know how big your pup will turn out. Yarrow and Shiloh have both outgrown both parents by quite a lot... about 25 pounds and they're still filling out!

My grandson got a boxer, Maverick, as gift,  When they saw him as a baby he was fine as was the parents.  He was 5.5 lbs at 9 weeks but probably should have been twice that.   He was emaciated, curved back and dehydrated.  We showed a picture to our vet and he gave us some worm medicine for him.  He had roundworms.  He started eating and drinking and at the vets a few days later he was 7 lbs.  He also had coccidiosis and hereditary mange.  I understand all the dogs in the kennel have to be treated for coccidiosis and the mother for mange.  Anyway, he grew fast and is a great boxer.  He loves getting the paper in the morning.  So I imagine she will grow to her fullest potential because even though they start out small genetics can catch up and make them full size.  She is really cute.
