We've had our Dagny for 11 days and tonight I gave her a 3rd bath!

Day 1: Shortly after we left the breeder she got sick in the car.  Vomit, pee, poo...everywhere.  Bath.

Day 7: Friends meeting her for the first time and I wanted her to be fluffy and clean smelling.  Bath.

Day 10: Crate accident (my fault).  Soaked her whole bed and had to lay in it.  I tried to hold off on the bath, but the urine smell was so strong today I couldn't hold off any longer.  I could smell her across the room today.  Bath.

Day....: With all this snow and as much as she's playing in it, I don't see how I can't give her a bath once a week!

I know you'll have ideas on how I can keep her clean and sweet smelling without so many baths.  Thanks!

She won't need a bath after playing in the snow.

I would've skipped the bath on day 7.

I definitely should not have done the bath on day 7.  I only bathe my other dog once every 3-4 weeks.  He's such a princess he doesn't even like to get his feet dirty.  I'm not used to a dog that loves to roll around on the ground and get down and dirty.  I do love her so much!

Well, she will grow out of the crate issue and snow doesn't make them dirty so you will be fine. Good thing todays quality shampoos do not strip the coat of oils. Make sure to use a good cream rinse and maybe you should use a leave in rinse as well to prevent her skin and coat from getting too dry.

For one thing, take the bed out of the crate. There shouldn't be anything in there that can act like a diaper. You'll have better luck with the training, and less need for baths!

True!  It seems like she prefers to lay on my tile anyway, so she definitely wouldn't mind the plastic floor of the crate.

Thank you so much!  I will get some conditioner!

If she gets really dirty, you can just bathe part of her if she's recently had a bath. If it's not too bad, you can wipe off with a wet towel/grooming wipes. For dirt, I think you can just let it dry off and then comb/brush it out.

In the first few weeks we had given her more baths than we liked because she came home with fleas and her soft poo stayed on her bum bum a couple of times. Definitely recommend a conditioner. But now those problems are over, she's bathed about once a month. Once in while I'll wipe her down with a wipe or use some detangling spray.
