Hey everyone, it has been quite a while and Archie is getting big! Had a quick question before I call the vet tomorrow.

We have been keeping a close watch because we suspected that Archie seemed to get sick right after taking his monthly heart worm meds.  Well 2 months in a row now he has thrown up and been kinda lethargic, not eating and just looking yucky the day after receiving his monthly pill.

Any quick ideas? Allergy? Something more alarming?

Has this happened to anyone else's little guy or girl?

Thanks!

Sam

Not allergies, I'd say that Archie is just sensitive to this particular drug. What do you give him?

Trifexis has caused some serious side effects in some dogs.

Ivermectin (Heartgard) is usually well tolerated by most dogs, except for collies and some related herding breeds. I've been using it for at least 25 years with no ill effects. If that's not what you're giving Archie, you might try it.

Hi Karen,

Archie uses Sentinel which I have heard good things about, so I had no reason to worry. I guess trying a new drug for next month would be a good idea because I hate to see the little man suffer the next dat with a little stomach bug.

We never put two an two together until like 3 months ago when I said I think he throws up every month the day after meds and sure enough....its the trend now 2 months in a row.

Heartgard may be a good alternative too since I see online that it's ike 25-30 dollars cheaper than sentinel LOL

He'll probably tolerate Heartgard better, but you are going to have to find another product for fleas and ticks. Heartgard isn't an "all in one" like Sentinel & Trifexis.

Bodi won't eat the next day.  Sometimes he also throws it up!  We had switched to a 6 month shot, but can no longer get that. Back to the pill.  I feel your pain!

My vet recently switched us to Tri-Heart Plus by Merck.  It is a chewable but my dogs won't touch it.  They won't even eat it if I grind it up and put it in peanut butter, cottage cheese - you name it!  This last time I put it in their homemade turkey dinner.  Penny was still pretty suspicious and ate the part with the medicine last.

I guess I should be glad nobody gets sick on it but really, this stuff must be incredibly nasty.  Should we try another brand?

(Sorry to steal your thread!)
