Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I just went over all of the labradoodle colors again because he doesn't seem to satisfy anything, but I found out about blue and it seems spot on to me. I want to know what other more experienced people think. Originally, I thought there was a possibility he could be silver but that doesn't seem viable to me. I found a post on a separate doodle forum and their puppy looked just like Orwell did at that age. I had to do a double take... it looked so much like a picture I took of him at 8 weeks.
Here is the post: http://labradoodle-dogs.net/forums/13-questions-about-your-labradoo...
Their pictures are kind of hard to see, but here is the picture of Orwell I referred back to:

LOL when you said Orwell was blue, I though you meant sad :)
I don't know what you call his colour, I just call it beautiful.
Haha... I had a feeling the title may be construed that way. He is the opposite of sad, though. :D
Thank you, he's my beautiful blue boy (BBB).
He has gorgeous coloring!
He really is such a striking doodle!
Thanks guys. (: He is a head turner everywhere and I'm proud of it.
I think you're right -he is a BBB!! It's going to be a lot of fun watching his coat change as he becomes an adult. He's very striking and very adorable that's for sure!!
It is definitely very interesting to watch. (:
It looks more green on my computer...:( If it's like Tara's coat it appears to be a different color depending on the light. It's very strange. So at different times I have a red, apricot or caramel doodle. It's like the Horse of a Different Color from the Wizard of OZ! LOL
Bella looked the same as a puppy. I wish i could find all those pictures I took but the resemblance is striking. She lightened as she got older and now she's three years old and hasn't changed anymore. Apparently its called a fade.
This is true. The blues start out being black with dark pigmentation and increasingly "fade" so to speak until they get their final color.
I'm just surprised the blue idea never occurred to me. I didn't even think it was possible in a labradoodle until someone told me he had a nice blue coloring. I was like, "What?" When I think of blue dogs I think of Great Danes and Weimeraners.
I did more research and it is due to a dilution gene (dd). It is rare because the chances of having both parent dogs heterozygous is rare and even then their progeny only have a 25% to become diluted.
