I wonder if any of you have found a collar that works best to avoid matting?
I don't usually have one on Yogi because he will matt underneath it, but I really would like him to wear a collar so I can always have an ID on him just in case he'd ever get loose.
Suggestions?

I use a rolled leather collar and have had no issues with it. I had tried "normal" collars before and Willow would be matted all the time. I am interested to see what other people use.

Yep. Rolled leather is what our groomer recommends!

I had the same problem with Cuba's neck. I found one made of a very smooth rubber on I believe Dog ID's. It immediately solved the problem. It solved another problem also, cuz he loves to get in our pool and the lake behind our house. Other collars would develop and bad odor after being wet, not this one.

I've heard rolled leather, but we went with the ruffwear knot a collar which is made from rope, and it works great as a temporary collar until the girls are older.
I switched to rolled leather a couple of years ago, and it's really reduced the matting around her collar.

Ned can wear only two types of collars because of matting - a rolled leather one that can be purchased at any pet store and a water collar made by Hot Dogs All Dressed. Here is a link:  http://www.hotdogsalldressed.com/index.php?option=com_contact&v...   We ditched the rolled collar about 3 years ago and he wears the water collar 24/7. Hot Dogs All Dressed customizes the collars and all of the dogs in our family are getting new ones for Christmas.

Rolled leather! Adorable picture!!!

We had the same issue - a rolled leather collar helped, but didn't 100% fix the issue.  We still have problems where the tags hang & rub and keep him cut shorter there to help with maintenance.  Still, it's so so so much better than the nylon flat collars.

I got plastic tags from Lucky Pet - had them engraved on both sides including their license number - so only one tag and it s pretty slick.  Anywhere we have taken them has accepted them as proof of rabies - can't have a license w/o one, but you never know.

Thanks everyone. Ordered a new rolled leather one, hoping it solves the problem :-)
