Eye sealed shut

My almost 6 month old GD has always had one leaking eye. I have asked Vet twice and she didn't seem concerned (maybe teething). But this morning he woke up with it completely closed, we took warm washcloth and cleaned it and the eye itself seems fine. Now hours later yellow mucus is gathering in the corner. I will see Vet in the morning. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this and what the outcome was? Thanks!!!

This sounds like conjunctivitis. You will most likely be put on antibiotic drops. I would also get a second opion from a vet because this is not normal.

No, it is pink eye. Dogs do not live with that. It means something is wrong with their eye and they need to be treated for it.

I will see vet in the morning. But considering it's the same eye that's been leaky since ten weeks. I'm starting to think we may have a tear duct issue. Thanks

He treated with drops. Did a dye test and examined the eye. He didn't feel it looked like pink eye- as it wasn't really red or swollen. But to be safe we decided to treat. He mentioned allergies and/or teething. Today he woke up and it was already better. Thank you for asking!!

Agree, this sounds like it could be pink eye and he should be seen by the vet - especially if the gunk is yellowish or yellow-green, as this could indicate an infection.  The vet should be able to determine if it's viral or bacterial and will treat accordingly.  Eloise has always had normal "eye boogers" but had conjunctivitis once when she was right around 1 yr old.  Her treatment was actually an ointment that I had to apply to her eyeball (not fun!) but you may also be prescribed drops if he needs meds.  Good luck!
