Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So yesterday, I tried to introduce Lucy, our Christmas mini Goldendoodle who is 9-weeks old, to one of our two rabbits.

It didn't go well.

I held the rabbit. Lucy got frisky and wanted to play (or maybe the retriever was coming out in her). The bunny wigged out and had panic attack. Lucy got really frisky, and I put the bunny up.

The bunnies are two-year-old Hollland Lops. They're smaller than Lucy. They live outside in a hutch, and when the weather is nice, we let them hop about the back yard.

We never had a problem with my other dog Lulu, but she was 12 and almost blind when we got them and she showed no interest, and the bunnies didn't see her as a threat.

Any tips for making the introduction easier? I did it late in the day so that Lucy would be tired.

Thanks for any advice you have! Jennifer

Thanks, Jane! I'll give that a shot.
My two have very high prey drive. There is no way I could introduce them to bunnies without the bunnies becoming dinner!!
That's what I'm afraid of, Stella!
I don't have rabbits, but I do have guineapigs. They are in a huge c&c cage in an open room (it used to be a dining room, but we've rearranged things and now it's basically an animal room. Lol. ) Gracie's crate is there which is right next to our living room. Anyway, we play a lot with her there because the floor is more forgiving to accidents. ;) She's just starting to notice them as they come up and will chew on their cage a bit in the evening (they know when they get their evenig treats). She went up to the cage and tried to lick one of them. I'm not sure if she's thinking tasty treat or furry friend. :)
I will definitely be figuring all this out soon - so if you find something that works, let me know. We don't let the other dog near them enough except to look at them from their cage or in my lap. I wouldn't trust him as he has caught mice out in the yard before (he's a schnoodle).

I have cats, but I don't think I could have a bunny. There are bunnies where we walk and Max goes absolutely wild when he sees one, hopefully it will work out for you!
