We adopted Molly a month and a half ago from the SPCA and, at times, will refer to her as our rescue doodle.  The thing is I don't know how much we "rescued" her.  If we hadn't adopted her there probably would have been at least a dozen people lined up for her, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and as a result once her hold at animal enforcement was up, (she was picked up as a stray), she went straight to the vet where I met her and took her home.

She has been so good, has fit into our household wonderfully, and she and Sulley are really starting to bond.  Yes there are a few things we need to work on, obeying commands consistently, leash walking and she will get into the garbage or compost if at all possible and loves eating used paper towels.  I guess I'm used to thinking a rescue dog is one who was in danger of being put down or has some kind of medical or behaviour issue.

By referring to her as a rescue dog, I feel like it implies we did something more than we did.  We did know it was possible she would have issues we would have to deal with but honestly I can't imagine it going much better than it has.  We just feel blessed with her.  Perhaps we should start calling her our "blessing" doodle.

Does this make any sense?  lol

I think I can help.

Molly is a rescue dog, and you adopted her.

I know that the breeders call it "adopting" a puppy, but that's marketing. You don't "adopt" a puppy when you purchase one from a breeder. You buy a puppy from a breeder, you adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue group, and the rescue group or shelter is the one who does the actual "rescuing".

So you are being very accurate when you refer to Molly as a rescue dog. It just wasn't you who did the rescuing, lol. You did the adopting.

And you are blessed, just like we all are. All of our dogs, no matter where they came from, are blessings.

"All of our dogs, no matter where they came from, are blessings."-- Karen

yes! I don't know where I would be without the dog. He brings so much joy, structure, laughs, social lubricant (ha!) to my life, I'd be lost without him.

That makes perfect sense, thank you Karen. And yes, all our dogs are blessings!

Bless you for adopting Molly. Looks like you are all blessed for having her in your family!

I love the term "blessing" doodle!!!  So glad that you chose to rescue Molly from an unknown "end"!!!  Blessings to you and your family!  And I know it's hard to imagine that she is called a "rescue" when she is obviously a huge part of your family - I think you could think of it that you both "rescued" each other!!!

The love of a dog certainly adds that something special to the lives of their families.

I like how Karen put it- someone else did the rescuing, and you adopted her. So, she IS a rescue doodle. :-)  Just like if you adopted a baby girl. She would still be your baby girl even if someone else birthed her.

I love to hear stories like yours! We would give out eye teeth to find a rescue doodle in our area. 99% of the dogs in our shelters are pit bulls.

Used paper towels are a delicacy, by the way... especially if they have a little pizza sauce and cheese on them. At least that's what Winnie tells me....Every. Sunday. Night.    :-)

Molly prefers hers with, ummmm.....well paper towels are much better than tissue to blow your nose with!! lol

There are some other cute terms that might make you more comfortable using:

Hand -me- down Doodle
Second Hand Doodle

So beautiful. Congrats

Pre-Owned Doodle. :)

We could start a whole new thread :)
