My go-to favorites for brushing out a curly doodle coat is the Les Poochs/Activet double green and single red brush (sorry, I'm not sure where you can get these now, but I do know they're available).
I always have a 7-12" steel comb handy too, like this one from Andis:

I love my Safari De-Matting comb:

I've used many different brands and types of shears and my favorites are Chris Christensen's Jasmine series (I have their 8" straight):

I also have Master Grooming Tools Surpreme Series 6-12" straight shears, which are my favorite for detail face work. When I ruined my first pair with a botched sharpening attempt, I bought a 2nd pair. Its never let me down.

I have a couple curved shears too, one Master Grooming Tools Supreme Series 8-12" and one other, that I wouldn't recommend:

I also have a Geib thinning shear, but have long since forgotten where I got it.
I've had a couple different nail clippers. So far, my favorite is Miller's Forge guillotine type. You can find them just about everywhere.
I'll have to get back to you on shampoos... the doodles need a walk!
I know I'm in the minority with my shampoo favorite. I hear a lot about the Tropiclean line, but have never tried it. Kim Laube's line of Kelco and Wild Animal brands (which, btw, are exactly the same shampoos with different names) are my go-to shampoos and conditioners. I've tried many different brands over the years, buying 12oz. bottles first just to try, but I always go back to Kim Laube. Since I do all my own grooming for 2 standard doodles I look for value, quality and performance in a shampoo, and have found she has one formulated for every coat color, hair type and condition. They also dilute at high ratios to water, which makes them a good value. I only buy by the gallon, although smaller bottles are available. The best prices, including shipping, is directly from her website:
Activet brushes (formerly LesPoochs) (I prefer the single wide green, purple or red) http://www.amazon.com/ActiVet-Green-German-Grooming-Brush/dp/B00OTV...,
Untangler comb, http://www.theuntangler.com/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=19&...
Horse Mane N' Tail Detangler,
Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine,
I know collars aren't grooming products, but if you have a dog with a high maintenance coat, the collar IS part of the grooming because of the matting.
Water collars from hotdogs all dressed {http://shop.hotdogsalldressed.com/hydro-collars-decorated/],
rolled leather collars from anywhere.
Nancy have you ever tried Mane n Tail conditioner? Someone told me that they use it on their doodle after shampooing and leave it in and haven't had a mat since. I'm worried if I do that Sulley might end up looking like a grease ball!!
We use the spray in Mane 'N Tail. We don't wash our guys unless it is a hose off. When we go to the beach. I spray their coats solidly and the sand falls off. Recently Ned was really matted because we got lazy with the brush/combing and I soaked him in the spray and we got most mats out w/o scissor intervention and he stayed 'silky' for days.
Thank you Nancy!! I used the spray in Mane n Tail detangler last Sunday on Sulley and even with me not combing him as much as usual this week he only had a few small mats, and that was with him being out in the snow for play several times! I think I'll try and use it once a week.
Glad you found something useful!
I just got a new comb yesterday and love it! http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0050HYRMA?psc=1&redirect=true&...
Also love Cowboy Magic Detangler and these Jaguar blending shears which were thrown in for nothing when I bought some used grooming supplies! Never would have bought them otherwise, they retail for about $150, but they are amazing! http://www.jaguar-solingen.com/en/collection/scissors/white-line/de...
I would like to know if anyone uses something for "fuzzy" hair. Along Sulley's back his hair is pretty thick but finer and it looks fuzzy compared to the rest of him even right after trimming him.
I'm also a big fan of the Les Pooches double green brush.
I also love my Chris Christensen T-brush (27mm) and the Buttercomb. (Although, for a comb, I keep meaning to get one of the Untanglers too, because I hear so many good things about it)
I use Earthbath Oatmeal & Aloe shampoo and conditioner. I also like Earthbath grooming wipes just to give them a quick wipe down sometimes, and the Earthbath ear wipes
I use the Scaredy Cut TINY TRIM ball tipped small pet grooming scissor 4.5" for touching up around their eyes/face (well, because I was a scaredy cat first using scissors near Eloise's face, ha)
Mane and Tail conditioner
Wahl Dirty Beasty Shampoo
Rotating tine comb
Les Poochs Green double brush
Andis 2 speed clippers plus metal comb guards
A Blaster (the best thing ever)
Thornit ear powder really does prevent ear problems
Gelb curved shears
thinning shears
blunt end small shears
Nicky do you leave the conditioner in or rinse it out?
I have two shampoo products that were referred to me by others that I really like. The first was Lori Daphne Doodle told me about because I inquired about how her girls always look so white. It is from TropiClean. The TropiClean Spa for White Coat Shampoo and then their Blueberry Facial Scrub for the face as it is tear free and smells wonderful. Keep in mind I am not a person that enjoys perfume type smells. This one though is just a natural clean smell. I ordered mine from Chewy.com. The other product was referred to me by Carol at Collars by Woofus on FB. She has Monty and Koda who is AnnaBelle's 1/2 brother. I was having trouble with AnnaBelle when she was a little puppy scratching. She told me about DerMagic Skin Rescue Bar that she used. I bought it to use on AnnaBelle and it worked great. No more itching. Now I just use it on Lucy who has both Environmental and Food allergies. I actually buy mine on Amazon but they do have a website at Dermagic.com
