When to trim puppy nails?

Gracie is 13 wks. Her nails are scratchy but still small. Is it ok to trim or try the buffer on them?

Thanks, Ashley! I wonder if I should use my regular ones or my tiny ones that I use on the guinea pigs?
My other dog has black nails (as well as some of the guinea pigs), so I probably keep them longer than I should.
I just know she scratched my leg last night jumping around. I look like I've been beat up - scratches and bruises (I bruise easily!)

The guinea pig clippers are the same as dog clippers just a smaller version. You would be surprised how big gps nails get.
I have had Barkely for 7 years and he had an older brother (a beagle mix) that I trimmed their nails. So with 4 gps and 2 dogs I've done a lot of nail trims. However, I am always nervous so they are always longer than they probably should be. With the dogs though I've taken them to the groomers (do my own trims as well) at least once a year so they get a really good cut and nail trim.

I used the buffer on her, but just a few nails. Trying to get her used to it and also using it are two different things. Since her nails aren't long - just sharp - I thought I would go with the buffer first. Maybe I will get out a nail file. Lol

Oh and I do have quick stop. Gps are squirmy when they need their nails trimmed. I've not cut the quick yet, but sometimes they act as if they've just been maimed. ;)

My iPad always changes things on these forums. I always have to double check or edit. Lol

So, with treats, I was able to clip like 3 nails. I just used the regular sized trimmers. I need to figure out how to get to the rest of the nails with her not trying to get away or eat my hands.

I will give that a try. I'm doubting it will work knowing Gracie. Dreaming of the day she's that sweet dog everyone keeps talking about. ;)

Our puppy needs a nail trim badly (he'll be 8 weeks tomorrow). I am way to afraid to do it on my own.
