The nerve of that woman!

This morning we took Wally and Charlotte out to a local farmers market, where our paths intersected with a very friendly Portuguese Water Dog and its (obnoxious) owner. While the dogs greeted one another, the owner asked if ours were doodles. Then, she proceeded to say, "Mine is the real deal." Dumbfounded but prepared, I looked directly at her and asked, "What is that supposed to mean?" Not expecting my blunt reaction, she responded by saying, "Well, they're not recognized by the AKC." I turned to my husband, shook my head in disbelief, and we walked away. I hope she got the message. The nerve!

That's so rude, what kills me is that some people have a stick up their behind about some dogs not being "worthy" because they are mixed breeds when I'm fact most people are "mixed breeds"! It's ok for a person to have family that traces from Germany, England, Ireland and throw 10 other countries in there because it's makes people unique but if a dog is mixed then it's not "real"? I told one one person at the dog park last year who was very proud of the fact that her dog was "pure" that my dog was a mutt just like me so we went perfectly together... She just looked stunned. :)

My husband said something almost exactly like that. Between my reaction and Barry's response, she stood there with her tail between her legs.

Good for you two! When people say things like that about my "mutt" I feel sorry for them because I would think someone would have to be so insecure in themselves that putting others down in such a superficial way would make people feel good about themselves. That and they are missing out on some of the best dogs ever! :)

The rudeness extends to people too. I'm a "mixed breed" for sure (my mom is Chinese, dad is British-Canadian) and people have actually asked me "What are you?"

My younger self would politely explain my parentage, my more smug self-assured adult self would probably say "human" lol.
