Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Well we've had our sweet Maggie for 12 days now and she is amazing! We love her to bits, but we're going a little stir crazy. Our vet advised us not to take her out anywhere until she's had her rabies vaccine, which she won't get until March 25th. That's another month away! Maggie is 11 weeks old now and (as I'm sure you're all aware) is very active. We play fetch in the house and run around our tiny back yard as much as we can. We've taken her out a few times without putting her down on the ground. We made a short trip to Lowes and Staples where she rode around in the shopping cart. She visited my office and my husband's office while I held her in my arms the entire time. We visited my son's house where she met 3 wild toddlers and got to run around their back yard (they don't have any pets).
Are we doing this right? Do we really have to wait until she's had her Rabies vaccine before we can take her for a walk in the neighborhood or go to a puppy training class?
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice to help us get through the next month?
Feeling isolated with an increasingly active, but adorable Labradoodle!

Our puppy is ten weeks this week and we are in the same boat. He does not go off of our property at all. I wish I could take him on walks/runs/playdates but we do not want to run the risk of him catching something. Our vet told us he should not be going out until after his last set of shots PLUS two weeks.
Well, it's a definite consensus then. We'll just have to try and find more things to do with Maggie in the house and the back yard. I do not want to risk her getting Parvo or anything else for that matter. I waited a long time to get her and I can wait a little while longer to take her out and about.
Thanks everyone :)
Was your vet referring to the 3rd or 4th set of shots plus 2 weeks?
Thanks.
4th. :-(
He's going in for his second set tomorrow. I am going to ask her about that again.
Thanks for checking and letting me know. I appreciate it very much.
How's your pup doing? They certainly keep you busy, don't they?
Socialization is so important that being creative with solutions is something you should really try to do. I used to take my boys in the car to the local school at going home time and sit on a bench while all the children would come to say hi. I taught them how to approach the puppy by not looming down and approaching the head but by gently under the chin. I also used to stand by busy roads with noisy traffic with them in my arms. I invited men to approach and people with hats. People with umbrellas and other friends dogs that I knew had their vaccines up to date were invited to visit. All of that hard work paid off as each of my boys is fine with all people and all dogs...
Good Suggestions, I'm trying to take her out as much as possible (in my arms). She's funny about it. When she meets someone new, she's curious but looks to me for assurance.
