I ordered Otis' food on Sunday morning. It ALWAYS takes two days. The FedEx truck pulled up this morning....and then pulled away. :(

I called chewy.com. It won't be here until tomorrow. EEK! I just fed the last of his food. So that leaves me short for tomorrow morning's meal. I'm kicking myself. I didn't realize FedEx only ships Tuesday through Saturday?!? This is my only complaint about feeding Orijen--I have to plan in advance since no one near me sells it in a brick-and-mortar store. I know I could do auto-ship, but I seem to be going through it faster than once a month. Ugh.

Thoughts/suggestions as to what I can give him tomorrow morning that hopefully won't cause diarrhea or upset his stomach?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Which Orijen formula is he eating? You want something grain-free and high in protein. Maybe Wellness CORE, that's widely available.

How about some chicken and sweet potato just for one meal?

That would work, but it will take almost 2.5 cups of that (make it a 50/50 mix)  to equal one cup of Orijen Puppy.

That's what I'd do...for one meal I really don't think it will be any problem.  I'm assuming Otis doesn't have any digestive concerns so I wouldn't worry.  If you don't have chicken in the house you could also boil some hamburger and then strain and rinse it to remove the fat....if you don't have sweet potato plain rice would work.

But he's on a grain free diet and he's very young, so I wouldn't introduce rice or any other grains if at all possible. I'm not sure even the beef would be a good idea.

You may be right.....just thinking if he was sick this is what my Vet would recommend so it's probably not all that harmful...especially for one meal.

This happened to me once. I'm In the same position as you and always have to plan in advance. I cooked chicken and sweet potato with some scrambled egg and the boys loved it and there was no problem.

The eggs are a good idea, too. I remember that, Nicky.

This is what I did also and Chance gobbled it up with now after effects.

I avoid this by always having at least one extra bag of Acana on hand.
Karen-- you are right. It's Orijen puppy. :)

THANK YOU for the help everybody! I have a snow day tomorrow, so I was planning on making chicken curry soup in the morning and let it simmer all day.... looks like Otis is getting some of the chicken before I add the "good stuff" to the pan. :)

One last thing....not to be ridicukous, but....feeding him "human food" isn't going to turn him into a dining room table-beggar is it?! Please tell me no! I have serious issues when dogs sit and STARE at people while they eat, so I've never allowed any of our dogs to have "human food".

Edited to add: my husband just said "what?! But the chickens aren't laying right now! You're gonna give the DOG some of the eggs from our best hens?!" Lol. I said "yes! Eat a stupid EGGO!" Lol. Men.

I have those same issues about dogs staring at people when they eat and begging.

As long as the "people food" is given to the dog in his regular bowl, in its regular place, at the regular meal time, you're fine. The dog won't associate it with getting what people are eating and won't start begging at the table. That happens when the dog is fed what the people are eating from the table where the people are eating it, lol.
