I have been charting my pet insurance premiums since I started and wanted to share it with all of you. My polices for both dogs are with Pet Plan. I know the premiums have gone up, but when I think of what one catastrophic illness could cost me, the peace of mind is worth it for me. I thought this is good for others to know, so you can plan for insurance for your dog/dogs.

That is important information you shared and it does seem like you are getting your money's worth.

Thanks for posting this, Laurie, it's good information.

One of these days I'll go through my checkbook and add up JD's vet expenses for 2014. No matter what anyone is paying for insurance, that will make them feel they are getting a bargain. :)

Just did February 2015. $277 in vet bills, and that's the shortest month of the year, lol.

Yikes...my two had their annual exams, shots, and I got a 6 month supply of Frontline. I think it was somewhere in the $600 range.

You should probably have wine in hand during the addition :)

Wonderful chart and a perfect example.  Thank you, Laurie. Mine are similar.

We have Trupanion, and while rates are hard to compare, here's the info for those that are interested. Oliver's premium didn't change last year so it will be interesting to see what happens in 2015. Essentially, it comes down to about $35 per month, which IMO is a great deal for peace of mind.

Oliver is three and lives in Seattle, for 10% coinsurance (any service type), $500 deductible, and unlimited payout.

2012 - $382.20
2013 - $411.72
2014 - $411.72

This is good for those looking to shop around for Insurance. Good to see another Insurance companies premiums.

Laurie, are you sure you are only getting $8000, the Bronze plan now covers up to $10,000 with 80% and $200 deductible, and a 15% discount.

We have Silver, $14,000 for both dogs and the 80/200

This years cost $297 for Daisy and $177 for Dexter

I too watch the costs go up and up. When I questioned a rate hike they told me it would start leveling out at around age 6...Daisy will be 6 in October and our yearly premium is in November so we will see if I get hit or not.

Others may scoff at the fact that I am paying for Pet Insurance, I say peace of mind is totally worth it. Also, Daisy is eventually going to have cataract surgery done on her right eye. I have been pre-approved for that $4000 + surgery. Out of Pocket $1000 - well worth the cost. So far Petplan has cost us $1093 for 5 years coverage. Do the math, it is worth every cent.

Lisa, You are correct. I just checked and somewhere along the line, it was raised to $10000, 80%, and $200 deductible. I just fixed my discussion. Thank you! Money well spent.

Halas is a little higher than Fudge and Vern.  It's totally worth it to me.  We've only used it once, so it hasn't paid for itself.  But it wouldn't take much for it to pay for itself.  One accident or major illness would be much more than what we've spent on premiums over the years.

I have used it a couple of times for Fudge. Never for Vern, but still worth it for us. Glad Halas hasn't had to use it, but the one time. Was that when he strained his shoulder trying to smother you? LOL
