Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi guys!

Loki is getting a baby brother at the end of April! Side note: I'm so excited because it has always been my dream to have two dogs!

Anyways what did you guys put in their crates to help them crate train? I think I remember some people mentioning snuggle buddies or something like that in past posts? Loki was my first dog and when I got him he was going on 13 weeks which meant the breeder had been working on crate training with him since 7 weeks so he was completely acclimated and fine. The new one, Moose, with be 8 weeks exactly so I want to make this transition as smooth as possible. Did you guys have lots of chew toys or what? I've read something warm to snuggle with is a good option. He will be coming home with a blanket from his current home with his litter mates and moms scent on it so that's a good start!

Thanks again guys! Have a great night/weekend!

Hello! I'm getting a new puppy at 8 weeks soon too! My plan is older towels and a chew toy

That's so exciting what kind of puppy are you getting??
Standard F1b goldendoodle
Oh fun!

I used the piddle pads. I know a lot of people don't like them but they worked great for Annabelle. Her first night with us she cried. It was the most pathetic little cry I ever heard. It broke my heart and I couldn't stand it anymore so I put a couple of piddle pads on my bed and laid her on it. She slept in my arms until I took her out to go potty. After that first night she slept great in her crate. I never put anything  in there but the pads. I didn't want her chewing on something and ingesting it. Annabelle is a chewer, so she has to be supervised. Now nothing goes in her crate but her.  After 2 weeks she could sleep 7-8 hours and not have to pee. She never did poo on them. So I didn't use them very long. She was very easy to potty and crate train. Are you getting another doodle?

Yes I am! I'm very excited and it will be good that Loki will have a buddy. I was think of using those lads, Loki chewed on the ones I bought for him but come to find out he prefers his crate completely empty so no wonder- we will see what this new one is like!
When we got Casey, we had a Snuggle Puppy for him. This was a huge success. It comes with a warming pad and a heartbeat device you can put in for a heartbeat. He did cuddle with it. Then, a week later, we went back and brought home one of his litter mates, so Snuggle Puppy was retired, as they cuddled together for a week or so until they became accustomed to their new home. After that, we put them in seperate crates right next to each other. I would love to be able to allow them to sleep out of their crate now (they are two years old) but we have a doggie door, a neighbor who works the 3-11 shift, and Casey who LOVES to greet him loudly when he comes home at midnight. Other neighbors aren't so fond of this greeting, so they have to be crated at night. They only use their crates for feelings and to sleep. Cody will even go in his crate during the day for naps.

Is is possible to slide the doogie door setting to closed, in the evenings and open it in the morning? My in-house cat door, has such a setting.

Yes, it does have a panel that I can slide closed, but one of my elderly dachshunds needs to go out during the night to pee, so I hate to have him uncomfortable (or weeing in the house) during the night.

Good to hear I will have to look into getting one of those for him!
We bring Henly home THIS COMING SATURDAY! I have a snuggle puppy ready along with a couple of different chew toys. In the crate I gave an old towel. I figure if I have to throw it in the washer, it's no big deal.
Oh that's so exciting!! Can't wait to see pictures!
