AWESOME !!! I think sometimes if our dogs could talk, they would ask us what takes us so long to figure things out !!!! : )
I had a GSD foster who was bilingual; he understood German and English, and obeyed commands in each. Hand signals, too.
I'm sure Mac was not just responding to your DH's tone or body language, unless he was also using hand signals, because he did the specific commands he was given. I do think he's bilingual!
Too cute! My parents rescued a retired sled dog and she became trilingual! Her first languages were Russian and English. She came to my parents when she was ~7 yo and picked up Tagalog on her own! We never learned Russian though! Good for your husband!
I got my Siberian Husky when I lived in a French speaking area in Canada - one of the guys I worked with was French Canadian and Patrick (the husky) definitely understood both French and English! Mac is very advanced! :)
Mac is bilingual which is very cool. Ned is bilingual to 'fake' German (my poor pronunciation because I don't speak German) and English! We have very smart dogs!
What a great husband to learn Spanish for his doodle! This is such a cute story!!! Thanks for posting,
Got to love an intelligent dog. I once dated a guy that taught his dog German commands. The funniest thing I ever ran into was on a trip following the Baja 500 race, we stopped at a small clay pottery place and I saw a kitten and called kitty, kitty, kitty and the darn thing ignored me. The little boy there gave me an odd look and called gato, gato, gato and the kitten ran right to him. Must say I was a bit embarrassed.
