This is especially scary....a dropped pill or any kind of meds, could prove deadly. "Drop it" was one of the first commands Enzo was taught.

Yes... the leave it command is essential.  I worked on it in one of my early training classes with Shelby and it's been a life saver.  I've dropped things that could be very harmful to her and she will leave it when told.  We also do practice this regularly with different things to keep the skill at it's best.

How I taught Sawyer: I used his favorite treat ever... I put the treat on the floor about 2-3 ft. away... I had his leash on him and I held him back saying "leave it". Then I'd say "ok" and let him go get it. I kept repeating this and gradually loosening my grip on the leash, until he could just stay with the "leave it" command and me not touching the leash at all.
