Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all, we are in the Raleigh, Nc area and are looking for a goldendoodle puppy after losing our golden retriever earlier this year. We would love to hear any suggestions you have for nearby breeders (as well as any we should avoid). Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Kerryn,

Breeder recommendations and reviews are not permitted here in the open forums. People can send you a PM if you accept a friend request from them.

If you haven't already read What to Look for In a Breeder, please read it and use it as a guideline for any breeder you consider. These are the minimum standards you should require. If anyone can't measure up, walk away. Most important is proof of genetic health testing of the parents, and the breeder's health guarantee.

Good luck in your search for your next companion.

Sincere apologies for breaking the rules on my first post - wasn't intentional! :( Thank you for the information and would love to hear from breeders via private messages if anyone is interested. Thank you!

No apologies necessary. :)

I think you will get a truer information from people who are not breeders and have nothing to gain from your buying a dog. Use the article, I cannot emphasize that enough.

Yes you did not break any rules asking for info.  Karen posts more as a reminder to others to take their responses privately and for you to know to expect private messages and as such 'friend requests' so people can message you.

Exactly.

That's a great point - thanks so much. Will definitely use the article! Thanks again :)

Good luck in your search and my condolences on the loss of your Golden.  We also lost a senior Golden over 2 years ago and the reason why our girl Enzo is here.  Never a replacement, but sure does help fill the empty hole left behind.

Thank you so much for the kind words. We are definitely hurting but hopeful we can find a new friend to love. Would be interested to hear how your experience with a golden doodle compares to your experience with your golden retriever... Thanks again.
It was a huge leap of faith for us. We raised and bred Goldens for 30 years and we had 5 Generations of Goldens. When we lost my last heart dog....I really thought I might never own a dog again. But, both my husband and I were so devastated....it was soon quite clear, we were not meant to be dogless. . I have to admit, I was done with all the hair, so I was looking for something that might shed a little less. But I really wasn't ready to give up on those wonderful Golden eyes and all the love they have to offer. Enter the idea of a Holdendoodle. found a Breeder I was happy with and waited for a litter to land.. I did not want to EVER, EVER, compare dogs, so I went with the mindset of a male black pup.. I had first pick....3 black ( 2 were males)and 4 various shades of cream/ gold.( 2 and 2 )Within minutes, the pup who is now our Enzo, made it quite clear SHE was picking me. She was such a PIA! I was sitting on the floor trying to engage the other pups and she would just keep climbing into my lap, pushing the others out of the way. The blonde female was to be ours. No complaints, no regrets and if I knew then what I know now...I gladly would have paid double! She's smart, and nothing but a bundle of pure unconditional love. She had huge shoes to fill and she has more than succeeded. I like to think our boy Dylan, who passed, had a paw in helping us go find our girl Enzo. Hoping you are as lucky in finding your next fur kid to love! PS Enz sheds very little...I tell everyone she sheds as much as I do!

I think it's important to mention that not all Goldendoodles shed very little, though. :)

So many people come to DRC looking for a dog with the temperament/personality of a Golden and the non-shedding of the Poodle. But genetics don't work that way. Which parent's temperament, coat, coloring, size, intelligence, etc any individual puppy may get is completely random, just like with humans. Many, many doodles take after their Poodle parents & grandparents in temperament. Many, many Goldendoodles do shed, some as heavily as their Retriever ancestors. A Goldendoodle is not a non-shedding version of a Golden Retriever, which is what so many breeders' websites seem to imply.

This is very true. Notice how I said " looking for something that might shed a little less". ;)
Kerryn asked for my expierence Golden vs GoldenDoodle.

Hi Ro,

Just a quick note to say thanks so much for taking the time to reply and for sharing your experience with a golden vs. golden doodle. It was very helpful to hear your thoughts and I am grateful for your ideas.

Thanks so much,
Kerryn
