I thought I had ant hills until I saw the bees flying around and going into the hills. I looked the bees up and apparently I should leave them alone since they are beneficial.

Wow! Not sure how I would feel about them in my garden. Keep us posted on your experience.

I found them in my garden several years ago. Never had any problem with them.

Last Summer when I was walking the Doods in a field where I hadn't been before I stepped on one of these nests.  Before I knew what was happening they were all over me and even got inside my clothes.  I got stung a number of times, so be careful around that nest.

Yellow jackets also live in the ground.

There are dozens of nests. I once got stung like that at camp when someone overturned a log :-(.
