Meet Roomba! -and a question about puppy pads

Meet my Roomba! He's an F1b goldendoodle :) We had pick of the litter so we picked him out yesterday and will come home next weekend at 8 weeks old. 

I'm SO excited! So the breeder has the puppies started on puppy pads, and from what I observed they are pretty good (about 75%) at using them. I haven't done much research about pads because most of what I read originally said that it makes house training more difficult and to just go right to using the lawn. What should I do about them now that I know he already uses them? Keep using them in a kennel or something? How do you transition them to getting used to the lawn instead? I'm thinking they will be useful for the drive home but not sure what to do after that :)

I wouldn't use them at all, honestly.  I have never had any luck with puppy training pads.  I've had 3 dogs, that we all got as puppies over the past 11 years.  I suggest switching right away to using the lawn.  Puppy might be confused at first, but use lots of treats/praise/consistency/repetition.  :)

I agree with Holly- ditch the pads and go directly to grass. Start doing it right away on the ride home, too, so he doesn't think it's OK to pee in the car. It won't take long for him to realize that the grass is his new puppy pad. :-)

Room a is adorable. I agree that he is young enough to switch to doing his "business" outside. Immediate rewards move the training along well! Good luck.

Adorable!! I agree with everything that was said...they'll figure it out pretty quickly with consistency and praise.

Wow, Roomba is adorable!  IF you choose to begin with the puppy pads, put one by the door then put it outside the door and then on the lawn. However, I am with the others in that you might want to just begin with the lawn.  The pup will need to be supervised for pottying anyway so it is just as easy to carry them out to the lawn.

Unless you want to continue to use puppy pads throughout the lifetime of the dog, I would not recommend it. This was an easy out for your Breeder. It is just another step you would have to omit. Why bother? Out every 45 minutes, after waking....lots of praise and treats, Patience and consistency and you'll soon have a housebroken pup. Good luck!
