I think it depends on her financial situation. As DH and I are now retired, I watch my money a whole lot more than I did when we were both working and had more money coming in. I was a little bit too much of a shopper back then. What I personally love now is a gift card to my favorite store(s) because I call it "guilt free shopping". I get to do what I love and I get to do it without worrying about spending money. My second suggestion would be to go on ETSY.com and do a search in the categories you mention above. There are lots of cool things that people can make to fit these categories. My last suggestion if her money isn't tight and she is one of these people that has everything, a donation to her favorite cause always works for me.
Does she like Spa breaks? Even people who don't do them regularly often love them. I took a friend for two nights to a beautiful Spa and we got to spend time together and have a wonderful relaxing time. I got a good mid-week deal and I got to go too Lol You might also think about a one night voucher for a hotel and dinner for 2 if not the spa. It's not the sort of thing you would do for yourself but you might really appreciate it.
Here's a few ideas:
Tie balloons to her car and leave a note on her windshield.
Write her a letter with 50 fun facts about your friendship, include a picture of the 2 of you.
Send her on a scavenger hunt with clues to follow to a bakery where they give her a sweet treat.
Take her to lunch or tea.
Give her a basket with garden gloves, pruning sheers, spade, a packet of sunflowers - with a diy friendship seed packet (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/158963061818380346/), and a small potted plant.
You didn't mention the date but you could do something with the numbers. My birthday is 12/12 and in 2012 my friend gave me a 12 pack of tonic with 12 airline size bottles of gin, and 12 limes - gin and tonics are my favorite!
Hey, if she is single the scavenger hunt is an awesome idea. That is where I met my DH!
Thanks. We're getting ready to celebrate my husband's 50th so I've been thinking of things for him. I've written to family and friends to send in favorite memories. I'm putting them together in envelopes to give to him. We will be traveling and so I wanted something special that could pack well.
I think a nice hardcover coffee table book on one of her interests or a nice cookbook that you could incribe to commerate the occasion. My favorite gift for my 50th was a necklace. The pendant was made from a portion of the handle of a vintage silver tableware peice. Love it and very appropriate to celebrate my vintage.
