Mikey is a 7 month old neutered standard GD. When will he start to calm. He is beyond hyper. He has had 6 weeks of board and train and knows pretty much all his commands but he is just out of control at times. I take him for a run or long walk in the morning, afternoon and then a run in the evening. At no point does he ever really settle down. He sleeps in his crate. We even have to crate him when we are at home sometimes just because he gets so out of control. I have never had a dog that was soooooo energetic. I am constantly exercising him. Our previous dogs always slept with us in bed. He cant even settle, he tries to chew the bed apart.

I can totally relate! Banks is the same age and he gets so wound up sometimes. I will take advice from replies. Our obiedience class is over so we need to fill it with something productive. The only time he has been worn out completely is on bath days, when we drop him off in morning and he plays all day or if we spend the day outside. Luckily we had a 4 ur old goldendoodle move in next door and they play sometimes and ware each other out. I can't wait for calmer days:)

My granddog is a boxer, Mav.  He is energetic but when they took him to board for a day he slept for two days.  It would be intellectually stimulating too.  Most dogs I have had are pretty sensible by two.  I have to say being retired I am glad Kate is calm and sleeps more than I do.

My little guy just turned 2 and is still very energetic.  He gets regular doggy daycare, multiple long walks and lots of fetch.  Honestly I've never seen such a high energy dog.  I've found that the thinking games & mental stimulation wears him out more than any physical activity.  Have you ever looked in to agility training for your pup?  Once he has good recall it could be a good way to combine physical + metal work.

If Oliver ever gets too wild I work on sit/down with long "stays."  It helps reset and refocus him from whatever trouble he was trying to get in to.

You may have a long time until "settling down" .  Many dogs don't fully mature until about 3 years old.  As well as exercise a lot of mental stimulation in will help tire him out.  Teach him lots of behaviors - not just beg and down, Make him "guess what you want".  For example rub his belly if he likes that and then stop and don't say anything just look at him and wait, If he puts his paw to his nose, he wins another rub.  Hide and get him to find you, hide a toy and when he finds it he wins a play with it.

Playing with another dog is a sure winder downer.

Crating when you are home is not bad, it's good.  It will be useful hundreds of times in his life to have a dog that is happy in his crate while you still around.  Roo and Tigger go to their crates when company comes until everyone has arrived and been in the house awhile.  It helps Roo ( who is seven years old) greet people a little more calmly.  Sometimes they stay for the whole party, sometimes they come out when things are less hectic than at arrival time.  It is also useful for service people in the house, etc.
