Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello everyone,

I tried to do a search to see if anyone's doodle had experienced this before but I couldn't find anything.  I took Cooper to the vet today because we noticed blood on things he chewed on.  It's been two days and I was just worried because it's not his canines.

We noticed his canines has not fallen off yet but his permanents has already came in.  So we can see he has double canines.  The vet told us that the blood isn't a concern, his baby teeth has just fallen off.  The concern is that Cooper has double sets of canines, upper and lower!  He recommended extracting the four baby canines since the permanent ones already came in.  He said we risk infections if we don't do it.  I was wondering if we should go ahead with the procedure or wait a little longer to see if it'll fall off?  The vet said even if it eventually falls off on its own, we still risk infections.

Any thoughts?  Thanks!

Has he been nuetured yet? Howard had double sets of canines and we just had them removed while he was under. He didn't even need stitches in his mouth and he didn't really miss a beat! Good luck!
Unfortunately yes, he has been neutered already. He was neutered exactly one month ago. I hope it falls off tonight! :(
The same thing happened to my pup. I waited a bit longer as the price was pretty high to have them extracted. I noticed one of the baby teeth was loose and I wiggled it a bit and it fell out. If it was me I would wait a little bit longer. Of course I am not a vet, just my opinion. Best wishes!
Thanks Deb, so did your doodle end up not needing the procedure??? We're thinking of giving it another 2 weeks and see what happens. I hate to put him under again. If u did end up waiting, how old was your doodle then? My Cooper is 5.5 months old. Not sure if it makes any difference. Thanks!

My doodle did not need the procedure.  Annie was 6 months old at the time. The teeth just fell out on their own.  My stepdaughter also has a doodle and she just waited it out too and her pups teeth also fell out.

Thanks.  I feel like there's hope now.   I extended our appointment until July 6th, so I'm hoping all four will fall off before then.

Try giving your pup something he can gnaw on which might encourage the baby teeth to fall out?  I gave my human children apples which helped loose teeth get looser and actually 'pulled' one out. Kong filled with something yummy, Nylabone? Just a thought.

Hi Nancy, Cooper actually gets a chew treat every night so we can watch 40 mins of TV peacefully. We give him either cowtail, beef tendon, beef stick or cow's ear.

Guess what though?! Great news...Cooper's two bottom canines fell off this evening!!! Hubby was playing tug of war with him with a rubber ball. It came flying out! LOL. So now we're hoping the upper two will come off before July 6th. I'm hoping those treats with give him will help. I think I will try giving him half an apple to chew on for a treat tomorrow :)

Congratulations. Will the puppy tooth fairy be making a visit?

LOL The boys asked us the same questions.  Since I didn't have time to buy Cooper a bag of treats that's different from what I have at home, I told the boys we'll wait until the upper ones come off so we can put it all together in one zip lock bag.  We only have one of the lower one because the other one got lost in the grass. lol.

We had to wiggle Ripley's so they would angle properly. Every day, three times a day I would play dentist. If you're willing, it's easier than it sounds when you bribe with cheese ;)

Oh my gosh, it's so hard to keep him still. lol But I'll definitely have hubby try wiggling it everyday.  He loves cheese, so ok we'll do that!  We'll do anything to keep him having to go under anesthesia again.  The worst part was looking at his sad face and telling him he can't have breakfast :(
