Today is Bentley's 1st birthday, and of course I have procrastinated. I have the ingredients for the cake part, but I'm not sure what to use for icing. I've seen whipped cream or low fat cream cheese. Are these okay for dogs, or is there something better? Thanks

I used a thin layer of low fat cream cheese on tenley's birthday cupcakes.

Thanks, Kate!

I use plain Greek style yogurt, I put it in a pastry bag and piped it on a yam pupcake but you can spoon it on also. The yam pupcake is made with a mashed cooked yam that I spooned into a cupcake paper, no baking and Mojo loved it.

I love your idea of the yam and Greek yogurt. That is the greatest pic of your adorable Mojo! I hope to post a pic later.

Thank you, Happy 1st birthday Bentley <3

This is what I was gonna suggest!

I would absolutely not use whipped cream. That much fat could cause pancreatitis.

Of course, the icing is really for you and for the photo op, and not really for Bentley, who would be just as happy with the cupcake sans frosting. He doesn't know that cupcakes are supposed to have icing. :) But if you must ice them, Vivian's yogurt and yams sounds like the healthiest option. A very thin layer of low fat cream cheese as Kate suggested should be okay, too.

Thanks, Karen. I was really thinking whipped cream did not sound good for them at all. That was in a recipe I found online. I heard Starbucks will give your dog a treat...puppuccinos, which is whipped cream. I didn't think that would be a good thing. My instincts were right.
