Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone!

It's 95 degrees out the last two days and Cooper does not want anything to do with it and I don't blame him with all that fur. Lol. He'll stay out for no more than 5 mins and then ask to come back in.

Can you please give me some ideas on what we can do indoor? I've done hide the treats in his toys, played tug of war, tricks with treats, and just playing together with his soft toys. He's usually up for about 2 hours so I need to keep him occupied for at least a good hour. I would long leash him for a short period too so he doesn't find/do things he is not supposed to. Some days it goes by so fast and some days it feels like the hour will never get here.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Arbor Dog Park...we go for lunch first. Check out the post in the Southern Ca Group.. Yeah..lit's over an hour for us too...but we always have fun!

Tracey!  I wanted to tell you "thank you" for the kiddie pool suggestion.  I found it at Target for $9.99 made in USA! lol. Cooper was afraid to go in it at first.  I had to lure him in using cheese.  I placed the cheese in a plastic bowl that floated in the pool.  He eventually realized he had to get his paws in to get to the cheese! lol.  We did it three times with just his front paws in.  Then later he had all four paws in on his own but quickly went out.  My two sons wanted to play in it two and that helped Cooper warm up to it even more!  They all played in it for 40 minutes!!! Cooper was wiped out afterwards.  lol. Let me see if I know how to upload a picture...

That's amazing!!!! I'm so happy that it's working for you!!! We have an actual pool and I'm getting a little one too. Just for him to go in as he pleases :) Cooper looks so happy!!!!
Oh that's great you have a BIG pool for your doodle :) yes, you should get the kiddie pool that you recommended. Lol. Cooper tried the real pool at grandparents house over the weekend. He went in three times with my hubby's help. After that he didn't want to anymore. I'm hoping the kiddie pool will help him love the water more and be more willing to go in the pool again! Thank you again! Now we have something to do when it's HOT out!
We have been close to or over 100 degrees the past two weeks, it's so HOT! I take Jack to dog friendly stores when I can .. We go out early morning and lay night for walks ... He's six and goes with the flow....but when he gets bored we go to Lowes or dog stores .

Yikes!  We'll get there soon enough here in Southern CA!  Mornings and evenings are cool, so we can still stay out in the backyard.  Some evenings we'll go to the dog park and he loves it there.  It's just in the dead heat of the afternoons that we run out of things to keep him busy.  I guess I can do that...take him to PetSmart & Lowes! lol  The problem I have with going to PetSmart or Petco is that we come out with a toy :P  It's not Cooper asking for it, it's just me...the guilt.  lol.

Thanks for the advice.  BTW, your doodles are ADORABLE!!!

They have several sizes; not too large but don't break easily. We have patched holes with that Goo stuff.

Thanks for the pic!  And I thought Tracey meant the inflatables.  LOL!!!

we have one like this for the girls and they love it.  Lucy will just go out and lay down in it and stay there.  Don't buy the doggie ones like from the pet stores.  Way too expensive.  Just go to Walmart or somewhere like that.  Biggest one is like $25 here I think.

Thank you! I will get the regular kind :)
I got the kiddie pool Nancy! Same as the picture you posted but in green! :) I posted a picture of it with my reply to Tracey. Thank you!
We live in Miami so we are in mid 90s for 4 to 5 months and madiba hates it. The beach is our savior, if not the beach she needs some other water source. She will not stay out in the heat of the day but like yours she wants to play. I drive to shaded areas and we do shorter more frequent outings until the evening when it cools off, slightly. She tires much faster in the heat. I also think the kiddie pool is a great idea, madiba was ok with it but she likes to run. We also live in a condo so no yard. We get creative. We run the 6 level, parking garage when it's at its least active. This wears us both out. I also always take a bottle of drinking water and a spray bottle to keep her chest and belly wet and I continuously spray her. We can't wait until October, we have a long hot summer ahead.
