Hi all!

I'm currently sitting in the puppy ER, Moose woke up this morning with a huge swollen lump in his groin area, he's tachy, and has a mild fever. Other than that of course he is his normal self personality wise. He is limping a little bit. I guess I'm just posting because I'm a little scared, he's so little and this came on sooooo fast so any help/advise would be great!

They are planning an ultrasound and a aspiration/biopsy to see. I think their leading thoughts are either hernia, muscle rupture, or infection. Being that he is tachy and has a fever I'm thinking infection, atleast that would be my thought with a person.

Thanks a lot guys, say some prayers for me and more importantly for Moose.

I'm sorry to hear about Moose. It sounds like an infection to me too. Good luck.

Poor Moose, poor you.  Wishing for the best outcome.

Sorry to hear this, I hope it's something easily treated and Moose is soon feeling fine.

Sending hugs and prayers that this turns out to be nothing serious.

Good thoughts and prayers for you and Moose.

Good luck.  Positive thoughts coming Moose's way!

Hi everyone thank you for your support, we are just getting ready to go home. The ultrasound showed a solid like mass in the subcutaneous tissue and it is not connected to any of the major organs- that's good! She biopsied it and it was consistent with a hematoma- this is fixable so good! She prescribed anti inflammatory pills for 10days and a weeks course of antibiotics (should I be giving Provable DC with this?) to be safe although all of the tests they ran showed nothing related to infection and his blood work was normal. She thought the fever could be due to the inflammation.

Does all of that sound good/appropriate to you guys? I literally have no clue how he would have gotten a hematoma. We did go to the dog park on Friday night but he wasn't playing rough or anything like that- there were only two other older dogs there so it was a fairly calm atmosphere. Him and Loki are more snuggle buds now rather than the rough play they had when I first brought Moose home. The roughest they played this week was tug of war with a new toy, but Loki always lets him win and no one slipped or fell. They are never both left out unattended, Moose is crated when I can't keep a close eye on him. I suppose he could have tweeked something jumping up on to my bed? It's a very very low bed though and he's practically as tall as the top of it so idk but maybe? He's on "bed rest" for a week and she said I should see noticeable results in 24 hours. Thanks so much again guys!

I'd give the probiotics, 2 hours or more apart from the meds.

I hope he's better soon.

Ok awesome, thanks so much! I hope so too :)
Things happeN. But as things go this is a good diagnosis. Hope the recovery is quick.
Thank you I do too:)

Good news Jessica.  So glad the blood work was normal, etc.  Looking forward to seeing Moose feeling back to normal!  Love his name!
