Harpo's hair is so long and I like it that way, but I think he should have a summer cut.  Thank goodness he does not shed, but he just looks warm.  Maybe tomorrow...but I have been saying that for weeks.

Annabelle had very long hair and then in May she got a shave down mainly because she was matted. It is growing out and I do like the length it is now. It is easier to look for ticks and comb debris out of of her coat but yet look doodly. Then come winter it should be longer again.

So cute!

He is so adorable, I would have a hard time cutting it too Lynda!

He is super cute ~ but I think he will be very happy to have a summer cut.  I know people say that their coats also help cool them, but I know my two love it when they lose all that hair (especially Charlie because he has so much thick hair)!

It's funny that I photographed the alpacas getting sheared this spring.  The experienced ones just came into the shearing area and laid down.  Their coats are so warm and they just wanted it off.  The younger ones were crying and fussing.  They all looked so funny afterwards.

I got Harpo half done today.  We will get the back end tomorrow.  He's not real short, but I will post a photo after we finish his clip.

Looking forward to seeing his new doodle hairdo!

Awwwww.... I really like it longer.

He is so adorable.   I like the long hair look too.  Since Asta in still young,  I decided not to cut his hair this summer.   Instead, the groomer gives him a face, tail, paw, and sani-cut.  He plays in his swimming pool and the pond to keep cool.  I brush and comb him every night while checking for ticks.  I also spray a conditioner one a week.

So cute.  She is a darling little fluffy puppy.

I always love the look of long shaggy doodle hair. But that's about all I love about it, is the look!!! It is so hard to keep the mats under control and the stuff that clings to that hair can fill a bucket some days!!!  I'm still up in the air as to whether or not they have an opinion of which they prefer, long or short.  I can't tell to be honest.  They seem just as happy either way. If it's true that the length gives them some protection/insulation from the sun, which makes sense, then why do they not seem to act like the heat affects them when it's shorter and they are in it?  Maybe other doodles in other areas of the country do though, but I need to keep them short for practical reasons or I'd be grooming everyday.

We got it done.  Two days and about 3 hours for me, and 2 hours for the final cut and blow dry for my husband.  That is about normal for us.  Five hours for a groom is what we usually spend, and divided up between a couple of days and a couple of groomers.  And that is with us having all the facilities and tools.  Harpo is most cooperative and the hardest part is his bath.  He is usually great on the grooming tables.  His ears were all long and then I cut the top part so now they are growing out.  I initially wanted him to have dreads, but that is very hard to do.  You can't use a blow dryer - just put on shirts and let him dry.  I tried it when he was younger, but it was just too much work.  Grooming him is easier.
