Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My new puppy has been home for five days and it has been an E motional ride. He went to his first vet appointment on Saturday, which revealed he was under nourished. Vet was concerned, He weighed in at 4.2 and he wanted to recheck his weight again today. He is not a great eater..... 1/4 C per feeding if I'm lucky. Karen has been a God sent with her support. His stools are pretty normal, a little on the soft side and very frequent but no diarrhea. He sleeps all day. Plays for 10-15 minutes and is out for hours. He sleeps all night....does not whimper in the morning to get out of crate.... I have to wake him up when I get up at 7:30. Went back to vet today. He's up to 4.13 lbs but vet is very concerned with his lethargy. Says puppies sleep a lot but this is excessive. He slept through 1.5 hour vet visit, nail clipping and all. Woke up for fecal and straight back to sleep. Vet wants him back in the AM before feeding for blood pre and post meal. Wants a cbc and to check for a liver shunt. Breeder says I can take him back and get me money back. How would I do that? He's already part of my family. I'm completely besides myself fecal on Saturday and today were normal. . Praying that tests are Normal and that he starts to perk up. Has anyone experienced this? Please say prayers for my cooper.

My older doodle is just what you described, he's a mellow, lazy, big fur ball for takes foreverrrrrrrr to adjust to even the tiniest changes in his routine. Even when I painted the walls in my old apartment living room he didn't want to go in there for a few days, lol. But as far as mellow goes, I scissor cut him my self and even as a puppy he would fall asleep and I just roll/turn him around on the floor to get to whatever area I need to to trim/cut. I hope that's the same for you!

Our Brodie was only 7lbs when we rescued him at 7 weeks old. He had similar symptoms and with regular vet visits and testing he slowly grew out of it.. He is 14mos old now and weighs 78lbs. He is so so playful and non stop.. We are sending prayers your way...

Ok.... That makes me feel a bit better. Maybe I've just been blessed with an easy going pooch. I'll keep you posted. THANK YOU
I have a 30 day trial from trupanion that came from the breeder and I also have a health paws policy but it's inactive until next week

That's really good news....these tests can be expensive.

Oh dear, I am s sorry. Sending positive energy and prayers.

Sorry if I missed it. What size Doodle? I understand the concern over weight ...did the Breeder not think this was abnormal? BUT....when I brought home my first Golden, our Vet swore she was sick. Such a laid back, easy going girl....NOTHING, I mean nothing, fazed her. He ran all kinds of blood work, that was all normal, and she grew into a very laid back adult. Hoping you have the same results!
He's a mini..... Projected grown weight 25-35 lbs. This is really encouraging. Hopefully we are in the same boat and I have a lazy pup. He was just outside playing like crazy, 20 minutes now crashed but that seems more normal pup to me.
I have a Standard, so, I'm no expert, but.....what weight did the Vet think he should be at? I would have thought, that it was about right.

That's good news!

Loki was in the same boat, he had lots of tests as a puppy because "puppies aren't supposed to be like that" he was a normal weight though. Maybe your guy is just a small- laid back dood :). I hope everything is ok for you and your baby!
THANK YOU!!!
