Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey,

so my new neighbors have taken up to calling my doods "big mutts" and making comments about not understanding why anyone would spend money on a "mutt" and they just don't understand all the "hype with mixed breeds". So I played dumb and ignored it but got on Amazon and ordered this as our new door mat! (It's attached because I'm on my iPad sorry)! It just arrived a little bit ago and my neighbors have been rolling there eyes since I just put it out. I also got a magnet for my fridge just for kicks and giggles.

Cheers all!

I love your mat!  But then, I don't think of our doodles as dogs anyways :) So as someone very wise once said, you can't fix "stupid."  Your neighbors need to get a life lol

LOL! You guys are all so funny :) Like the doormat! People should seriously mind their own business regarding how others wish to spend their money. I am proud to call them goldendoodles/labradoodles. They are way to adorable to just call them "mutt".
I compete with my LDs in AAC agility, all mixed breeds are kindly referred to as "All Canadian"!
Actually, all dogs are mutts. Many dogs were bred for specific purposes. Boar hunting (Great Dane) and retrieving water fowl (Golden and Labrador Retrievers). The Golden, for example, was originally bred in Scotland in the mid 19th century as a cross between a yellow coated Nous and a Tweed Water Spaniel. Ultimately, like all mutts, it was recognized by the AKC as a breed. As someone pointed out, we are all mutts, given our hereditary gene pool. Your neighbors are just plain old snobs who don't understand genetics or much of anything else. I predict that in a decade or two, the AKC will recognized the Doodle as a breed that is know for its companionship, sweet disposition and intelligence.

So, the next time some jerk insults my doodle and calls her a mutt, I will say "a mutt just like you and me." Then, I will turn and walk away.

As you can tell by this comment, I love my doodle.

Some people are just jerks period.  If anyone gets too snarky after they ask something along the lines of Hanna being some "designer breed".  I just smile and say she is my "hairy Mutt with a big nose" and turn to leave with Hanna strutting happily beside me in a perfect heel as we walk away!

To be concerned with the breed of your dogs is sheer snobbery. The previous poster is right, we are all mixes. That being said, everyone has ideas about what they like in a pet. I personally would absolutely never let a pit bull into my house (no offense pit bull people!) but I dont judge the people that love them. What matters is how you treat your pets & the life you provide for them. Some people are just miserable & love to spread that misery. Im glad you have a sense of humor about it :-)
