I know there are a lot of discussion on this topic but at the moment I don't have time to browse it.  I know I have to give him pumpkin I think...

Cooper just had a really bad diarrhea.  This morning he had a solid stool but was loose afterwards.  Then just now, about 3 hours later he had a super loose watery stool.  Luckily he waited until I came back home and he rushed out the back door to his potty area.

(1) Do I need to call the vet?

(2) Should he still have his normal lunch?

(3) Give him pumpkin? Where can I buy that and what kind?

(4) No treats or peanut butter right?

I don't know what he ate wrong but last night he had a few bites of BBQ pork chop we had for dinner.  If he had diarrhea at 9:30 a.m., about during which meal the day before do you think made him sick?

Thanks. I will try to research now.  Cooper is being occupied by my son at the moment.

I don't think you need to see a vet right now....He has probably eaten something that his body now needs to get rid of...If it persist for more than 24 hrs than I would call the vet....I would probably feed him his regular meal to see if he wants to eat....Definitely keep water available for him as usual...
Ok thank you Sue. I guess I panicked because it's his first time and I got so worried! He is playing like normal but is looking for his snacks. Lol
He probably pooped it out....Always better when they get it out then when it stays in :) lol

Glad he is feeling better....keep an eye on him....but throwing up/gastro are the body's natural way of getting things out of our bodies and puppies / dogs work the same way....keep me posted...
Thanks again Sue. I gave him about half of his lunch just now because he kept waiting in the kitchen and staring at me wondering why he doesn't get snack today. Lol so far so good. He is outside wandering around and only peed. Yaay!! Now that I can't give him treats to put him in the playpen, I'll have to use the other little portion of his lunch to lure him in. I need to take my boys to the eye dr later.
You might want to add some plain vanilla greek yogurt on his regular food. I'm guessing that BBQ pork chops do not agree with his digestive system. Hope he gets to feeling better.
I'll go pick up some plain yogurt when I'm out in a few hours. Thank you for that suggestion! I'm thinking might be the pork chop too. He did fine with steaks last time we BBQ. Gotta be careful now! Thank you again! It was just so awful watching him go this am, broke my heart!

Not vanilla--just plain, nonfat yogurt. Vanilla yogurt has sugar--not good for dogs!

Thank you!  I just bought plain 0% greek yogurt!

If you post this discussion to health and medical issues, Karen will respond and I'd guess she would advise you to switch food to to boiled chicken and mashed sweet potato - very plain - until it passes. I'd call the vet and ask them too, but this bland diet is easier on an upset digestive system. You can do the sweet potato in the microwave and it's a good substitute for the plain, canned pumpkin. Also you may like to give Proviable DC as a probiotic to help increase good gut bacteria balance (plain 0% yogurt helps in meantime). Any blood in the diarrhea? I hope Cooper gets better quickly - such a cutie!

Thank you Cindy.  No, no blood in his diarrhea.  It was very yellow and very watery/runny.  He is still napping, so I will see if he goes potty #2 after his nap.  I just bought the plain 0% greek yogurt (Fage Total 0%).  There was only one brand that carried it.  I'll have to run to the market later to pick up chicken and mash potato if he has diarrhea again.  I'll call the vet if his diarrhea continues.  Thank you, I hope he gets better soon too!

When Hurley has intestinal issues for more than a day I start feeding him a mixture of cooked white rice, cooked sweet potato and banana. Sometimes I will include some of his dog food and sometimes I include boiled chicken. Really depends on how severe the dirrehea is. I also watch him closely to see if he is his usual self or lethargic. If there are changes in his daily activity level and how long he has had the dirrehea before I start thinking about calling the vet. I also watch to make sure he continues to drink his usual amount of water.

Any time he eats something that is not his usual diet he tends to get loose stools so I am careful what table scraps he gets if any. Learned that the hard way.

I came close to panicking the first couple of times he had intestinal issues. Over time I learned how sensitive of a stomach he has. Anyway, hope that helps.

Thank you.  I know, I'm learning this the hard way!  It's so hard to say no to him when he's waiting next to the BBQ grill knowing something yummy is cooking.  lol  I may have given him too much :(

I have rice and bananas. LOL no sweet potato or chicken so I'll have to go to the market for those.  I'll keep everyone posted!  Thank you for responding!
