I was scratching my 5 month old puppy the other day, and I felt on his neck tiny bumps that on the end have a crusted scab on it. Then today I felt a couple on his chest area..the same type of scabs. They are pretty small scabs, and i don't think they can be from fleas and ticks, because he just got treatment for that a couple weeks ago and the medicine lasts a month. He doesn't scratch at them or seem bothered by them, but I am wondering what these could be from. He plays with other dogs and I was thinking maybe these are because of them, but I am not too sure. I have read something about these scabs being from the type of food (like allergies) but if I have given him the same type his whole life, could he all of a sudden be allergic? I feed him Complete Health Wellness puppy food and when the bag is done I am going to switch him to the grain free wellness food for other reasons. Would this help maybe? has anyone else had this issue with their pup?

He is really very young to have developed an allergy to a food ingredient already. It typically takes a year or more of eating the same ingredient on a daily basis for an allergy to develop. And scabs would not be the first or only sign you would see. He would be very, very itchy all the time, and you would see him licking and biting his paws, rubbing his eyes and face, etc. Here is some information about food allergies in dogs: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/facts-a...
The scabs might be from bug bites. The flea treatments don't prevent fleas from biting your dog, they just prevent a flea infestation. Dogs can also get mosquito bites, spider bites, anything that bites us bites them, too. They could also be from a heat rash or some other type of skin irritation. The only way to know would be to have the vet take a look. But I feel very certain that they are not from food allergies.
Banjo tends to get these little scabby things after a grooming. Not all the time though. They don't bother him and eventually go away. I've often thought it might be related to either the shampoo used or maybe he wasn't dried thoroughly and had dampness next to his skin for too long a time. Have never figured it out. I hope it clears up soon.
