Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all!

So Moose went in for a follow up appt, from his hematoma, and just a regular check up, fecal, blood work ect. ect. ect. Any who, all is well and he's great how ever the vet pointed out that his poop was a little on the softer side and I mentioned that it's completly normal for him I actually didn't really think anything of it until she mentioned it. She had asked how I felt about putting him on a grain free food and I'm not opposed to it but would like your guys thoughts. A little bit of back story, prior to DK Loki was on blue buffalo and he had horrible silent but deadly farts and then I changed him to Fromm Family Gold, which is healthy grains and it's been great for him, and no farts! Moose is on the Fromm Family Puppy Gold for Large breed. Since being a DK member I have learned that silent but deadly farts are a normal part of transitioning to a grain free food, before that Loki was on some crap food with who knows what. What do you guys think? I want them to be atleast eating the same brand/line so when they are both on adult food it will be easier. That being said if I must I will feed them separate foods if that's what's best for them. I was reading the different recommended brand websites and just looking around and looking and Fromm's grain free line as well and am open to whatever options.

Thanks guys! Not sure if anyone has had a dog that really had a drastic change and benefitted from switching for healthy grains to grain free or I guess if softish poop is a good reason too. Otherwise both of them are completely healthy, negative fecals and they have had multiple as well as multiple to test for giardia since Moose came home with diarrhea ( he came home beginning of May), all have been negative. Loki is 17months and 85 lbs and Moose is 5 months and 58lbs. Not sure if any of that is relevant

Thanks again

Grain-free is recommended quite often. Something I have experienced with two dogs, though, is that sometimes it is not the grain that causes the soft poop but the protein source. My vet believed my previous dog had IBS and his poops improved when I changed to Natural Balance Limited ingredient, although he always has softer and frquent stools. This was before it was bought out by Del Monte. Now, my doodle girl is currently on Fromm 4 Star Duck and Sweet Potato, which is healthy grain. I know that chicken causes loose stool with her, and I had previously tried her on Fromm 4 Star grain free Game Bird, which also caused soft stools. Her stool firmed up switching her to the Fromm Duck and Sweet Potato.

You could try the Fromm Prairie Gold for both dogs, It's grain-free and there's a puppy formula and an adult formula.

Thanks guys! I will look at those options!
