Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just posted this on the Training group so sorry for the repeat notices. I know this question has been asked but I just wanted to get an updated sense from puppy owners (under 12 months) how much everyone walks or plays fetch with their dog per day as well as how much their dog sleeps each day -  I know each dog is different but I just wanted to get an idea.

My 5 month old Goldendoodle gets about 3-4 20minute walks a day, plays with the kids in training or fetch couple times a day and goes to doggy day care once per week. Otherwise she is very mellow (gets more awake in the evening when everyone home - curious, into everything, playful in the house, etc., from about 6-9pm) but otherwise sleeps. It's really hot here in Chicago and at times, she doesn't want to walk at all on very hot days. She settles down for the night at about 9pm and sleeps on the cool bathroom floor until I go to bed at about 11:30ish and then goes in the crate until about 7am. Is all this similar to others' experience? I know that this could be a phase and maybe I should be happy she is not more hyper - I'm sure she'll go through a hyper phase and then I'll long for these days.

I should also add, I don't think she is a lethargic dog just pretty low-key aside from a few hours a day.

Hadley is the same at 9 months (ALD)....

She does not like the heat or being in the sun for long at all...she's constantly looking for shade.  She's up for playing if you want her to, but is just as content relaxing with a chew toy, laying on the side porch watching the trees and birds or napping.  She's kinda lazy too but I happen to love that!  :)  I pray she doesn't change.  She's definitely in good shape and eats well...so that's just her.  She up with us at 6am...and goes down when the last man standing goes to bed which is usually around 10ish.  But frankly, she's perfectly ready for bed at 9:30.

Rip is now 16 months but our routine hasn't varied much since he was under a year... A typical day's activity/rest for us is this: Play date with a friend almost every AM (after his morning bathroom walk) lasting almost an hour where he free runs, wrestles, etc. which is great exercise. He comes in and eats/naps. I give him a 10 min potty walk around noon and one of my teen boys walks him 20 min every day 2:30. I frequently take him with me in the car (he loves) to Home Depot or on errands, pickups, etc. when I can. Another quick potty walk/outing before dinner, and chew toy time, dinner, then his before bed potty walk at 8:30-9pm. He is completely calm in the house typically - either resting on the floor or will follow me if I leave the room/his sight and lay down again wherever I am. I think the play dates really suck any mischievousness from him, or he is just an amazing mellow, good boy. He is also so well supervised or was crated (done now that I trust him) he never had opportunity to mess up.Training or nature, whatever, I'll take it!

Brutus is 8 months old and gets 4-5 walks a day. We take him out first thing when we wake up. While we're at work, we have a dogwalker who comes twice a day and takes him on 15-30 minute walks at 10:30am and again at 2:30. We take him out again when we get home from work, then he plays for a couple of hours before he settles down around 9. We take him out one final time around 10:30-11. He is overall pretty mellow although definitely has moments everyday when he seems to be super hyper and playful - usually after his afternoon walk!

Sophie's day does not vary... Every morning at 6:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. on weekends) we go for an hour walk and play fetch. Home for breakfast and then she naps away the morning. At lunch I take her for a 20 min walk and then again at 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. (Later in the summer due to the heat). Because we are up early, we go to bed between 9-9:30. Her busiest time is from when I get home after work to bedtime. We walk, she plays, she's always beside me nudging me for attention and just hanging out.

My 4 month old has pretty much for the same schedule as yours. She is quite excited once she wakes around 6;45am but then naps around 9am....She gets a second wind after dinner right when we are starting to wind down but we just play with her some more...She also is pretty low key aside from a couple of hours....I think it is a puppy thing....they need lots of sleep to grow....

What a perfect puppy!  Lucky you!
